They currently have a world government that is run more like a large corporation. Individuals work their way up the ladder till they end up in various positions of command that would be equivalent to running a specific ministry. All the planets citizens can buy shares in the government and the wealthy control more shares and have a say in who gets promoted. Almost 75% of the planets population works for the government.

Description

The Aksani are a warm-blooded, hairless humanoids with grayish skin. Their mouths were their most distinctive features. Instead of jaws, Aksani had many fleshy tendrils hanging from their lower face and neck. Aksani breathed through these organs, called hullepi. Aksani communicated by breathing through hullepi of different lengths, thus producing various musical tones. This made them natural musicians.

It is often almost impossible to tell the males from the females. They dress and appear the same. They never wear anything on their heads and prefer loose cream colored shirts and pants. they have 3 fingers and 1 thumb on their hands. Footwear is usually some style of tan colored boot.

Physiology

For the most part they have similar diseases to most other humanoids except that as a race they are more prone to breathing difficulties. This has slowly become more noticeable as industrialization has contributed various chemical pollutants to the air that they find irritating to their hullepi.

This can especially become more dangerous as inflamed or irritated hullepi can make it difficult for them to eat. All their food is transformed into a liquid and consumed through their hullepi.

Senses

Due to the nature of their speech and the sensativity of the hullepi they can easily detect even trace amounts of anything in their food or even in the air they breath. Their hearing is also more sensitive to tone and pitch allowing them to speak in a very musical manner where slight variations in said tone and pitch can result in totally different meanings to words that to us would probally sound the same.

They seem to be fairly well adjusted as a people and a species.

For the most part the Aksani live together as part of one large collective working for the same goals and seeking the same prospects of betterment and advancement within the company.

Culture

Music forms a very intrigral part of their day to day lives. Almost every day is greeted with song and at the end of each day they will sing again before sleep. It is not uncommon to greet a friend or relative by voiceing a brief vocal melody.

As a race they have developed and traded with their close neibours the Antaria, Chessu, Terrellia and Imhotep to the point where they are all roughly equal in advancements. Space travel is fairly common and some of the ships are even fairly comfortable. They have warp drives, sophisticated monorail mass transit systems and efficient recycleing abilities.

Economy

Since almost 75% of the planets population works for the government in one industry or another competition among the smaller companies is fierce. As a result a fairly complex trading system has built up with their closest space fareing neibours the Antaria, Chessu, Terrellia and Imhotep.

Monopolies and trade contracts are strongly defended and while a lawyer may be a businessmans best friend, business is business. As a result the government now keeps a very close eye on the actions and business practices of all the smaller companies in order to ensure that no one tarnish's their people's reputation for fair trade.

In 2377, the Aksani participated in the inaugural run of the Antarian Trans-stellar Rally. The Aksani threatened to withdraw unless they were allowed to host the post-race ceremony, which had already been promised to the Chessu by Ambassador O'Zaal. Captain Kathryn Janeway proposed instead that the festivities be held aboard the USS Voyager, as a neutral ground to all parties.
