Latu Wright was born in the shadow of the great monument built in honor of the sacrifice the people of Gideon made in order to preserve their planet beginning in 2268, when hundreds of billions of his people willingly died in order to alleviate the strain placed on their overcrowded world. Though the plague ended just over a century ago, Latu was reminded of the event nearly every day of his young life. While his parents were content to benefit from this sacrifice, living a life of relative ease and luxury, Latu experienced a great desire to further himself and to do something grand in honor of the great sacrifice.

Despite the wishes of his parents, Latu accepted an invitation to take the Academy entrance exam during his final year of secondary school. He passed, showing extraordinary aptitude for biological sciences and a proficiency with modern technologies. He left his homeworld three weeks later, and has not returned since. Now approaching graduation, Latu looks forward to finally making a difference in the real world.
