Personality
Curious, thoughtful, a little on the quiet side. I'Thersa tends to listen to others before speaking herself, to the extent that others occasionally assume she had nothing to say, a thought that she will pointedly contradict when it comes up. She values a more communal approach, certainly, but not quite to the point where she's being stepped on. Whenever possible, she prefers to express herself in writing; having an editor for a mother helped on that account.
Her choices in her studies can appear a bit eclectic at times; she's studied broad details about a variety of creatures and sentient beings, hoping to gain some insight into the importance of interaction and interdependence within her world and the Federation.

I'Thersa is the eldest child of a florist and a science editor, and grew up in an environment that emphasized nature, community, and clarity of thought. While she's heard tales of her peoples' conflict with the Kellerun, the peace forged between them is the only thing she can actually remember.
Her younger sister, E'Nerma, was born when I'Thersa was three. The two siblings have had a tumultuous relationship over the years, for while they care about each other they also tend to be more competitive with each other than is considered appropriate. That E'Nerma has always taken more after the skills of their acclaimed mother has not helped matters. This particular conflict has partly helped encourage I'Thersa toward other fields, though she has retained a strong background in the written word.
The distaste their conflict earned also helped push her toward a focus on scientific studies of inter-species collaboration, something that is especially valued in her particular sector of society. To understand such things is considered a way to prevent conflicts between the T'Lani and other species in the future. And thus what had become an attempt to separate herself from her sibling became rewarding in its own right.
To join Starfleet, and experience the breadth of the Federation, seemed a perfectly sensible expression of such a focus.
