Ura Neteos III, locally known as Meirash, is the third planet of the Ura Neteos system in the Borderlands near the Celendi Nebula. It is the homeworld of the Meirashi, a pre-warp, pre-industrialized civilization. Being a class M planet, Ura Neteos III can support most humanoid life.

Physical characteristics

Flora and Fauna

The jungles of Lesser Prash are inhabited by a species of annelids referred to as “camel worms” or “water worms” by the Starfleet team that recorded them in 2401.[2] The species resemble earthworms but are larger, about the size of a Terran cat, and have bulbous sacs along its back. These sacs are typically filled with liquid water that does not scan for harmful contaminants.[3] The surface of the sacs does not have nerve endings. The team reported emptying one of the sacs with hypospray and drinking the water, noting that the water is “perfectly drinkable”.[4] The annelids respond to water (a member of the Starfleet team shook a water bottle near one) and try to reach it. They do not appear to have any mean of defence that the Starfleet team could find, though they did not test for bitter taste. Instead, the team found the annelids “friendly”.[5] The annelids make a hissing sound.[3]

In 2132[6], a ship crashed to Ura Neteos III while flying through the Celendi Nebula during the nebula's period of activity. The sole survivor, an Orion engineer Gaire Unem set up a signal beacon but was unable leave the planet, having to survive in the jungle.[7] She took refuge in a mine, where she made contact with the Meirashi miners.[8] She managed to gain their trust, but after saving a miner from a cave-in with the help of technology and her survival skills, the miners began to view her as an object of religious worship.[9]

The word of Unem's alleged powers spread to the nearby settlements, and more people began to come to her for healing and for religious guidance. She and her followers attracted the attention of a Rishe, a local feudal lord.[10] Despite the objections from the religious authorities, Unem managed to instil herself to the court of Rishe Varshan of Greater Prash.[6] In about two local years, she had taken over Upper Prash as the Empress and before the end of year 3 on the planet, she had launched a war of conquest against Lower Prash. Her plan was to introduce slavery after consolidating her power.[11] She was however defeated and killed by the Rishes. Her cult was subjugated, but it continued to survive to the 25th century in secrecy.[12]

A Federation research team studied the planet in the 2370s, but their work was interrupted by the Dominion War. The research team collected some planetary, biological and cultural records, but these were considered minimal in their extent. No further studies had been conducted in the 24th century.[1]
