The USS Halsey is an Inquiry class Federation starship. As part of the Inquiry class, it is among the toughest, fastest, and most powerful ships Starfleet has ever put into service.

In 2400, the Halsey was assigned to Amity Outpost to fortify the station's defenses when a large gathering of Hirogen ships were detected. Jess Webber was assigned as the ship's operations officer and tasked with leading the Halsey to its destination, where it would await the rest of its crew complement to follow, including its new captain.

The Halsey is named for William Frederick "Bull" Halsey Jr., an American Navy admiral during World War II. At the start of the war in the Pacific, Halsey commanded the task force centered on the carrier USS Enterprise.
