History

The Tygarians have a long history of being strictly neutral. They do not take sides and it is believed that they have never had a serious period of civil unrest or armed conflict on their own world.

Prior to the invasion of Bajor by the Cardassians, the Tygarians had a number of long standing trade deals with the Bajorans. This ended once the Cardassians took over. It was not until the Bajorans had managed to regain their freedom that the Tygarians eventually resumed contact.

As a result of this renewed contact with the Bajorans they were one of the first species to explore the Gamma Quadrant in 2370.

A Tygarian was seen in a bar on Dessica II while the senior staff of the USS Enterprise-D was searching for clues about the whereabouts of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in that establishment.

In 2370, a Tygarian freighter, the Nanut commanded by Romah Doek, docked at Deep Space 9 at docking pylon 2 before leaving on a two year voyage in the Gamma Quadrant. While the freighter was docked at Deep Space 9, Li Nalas boarded it disguised as a crewmember. He was discovered and Romah Doek contacted Benjamin Sisko to inform him.

Beginning with the year 2370 Tygarians were also frequently seen on the Promenade of Deep Space 9 and in Quark's. Later that year, Odo took the Teenage Jem'Hadar to a holosuite where he fought a holographic Tygarian, to help him channel his aggressive feelings.

A Tygarian was one of the first customers of Quark's Bar to help out after all of Quark's possessions were confiscated by the Ferengi Commerce Authority at the end of the year 2372 and carried in a new table for the bar.

Government

The Tygarian’s have a complex and some what unusual form of government. First they elect 111 delegates to represent the people. These delegates are in office for 11 years and all of them have the same degree of power. They work together to oversee all aspects of the government.

Surprisingly this form of government is almost completely free of corruption. Part of this is due to the fact that they all know what the others are doing. However many believe the main reason is that any delegate discovered abusing his power or acting in a manner not considered to be ethical is immediately arrested. He then receives a fair trial and if found guilty is automatically put to death.

Description

Distinguished in appearance by greenis brown leathery skin and a large set of bony cream coloured protrusions over the eyes. This bony protrusion also extends back over the top of the head altho it allows a darker area of green and black mottled skin to be exposed that runs like a ribbon from the top of their head down their fact to their neck and then on down onto their belly.

Physiology

Due to the fact that their home world has a high level of moisture in the atmosphere they tend to keep the interior of their ships at a fairly close level as well. When they are outside of their normal environment they will use special creams to prevent their skin from drying out and cracking.

They have a number of unusual chemical enzymes but otherwise their systems are your basic humanoid makeup of specialized internal organs and co-operative biology.

Psychology

They tend to be fairly passive and it takes a lot to rile one of them up. That being said, once they have been pushed to far they can explode in a sudden violent surge of rage. This surge is fueled by massive amounts of adrenaline.

Religion

Part of their pacifist beliefs may be traced to their religious beliefs. In their case a male god and a female goddess, these two beings are the mother and father of their entire species. Every aspect of their religious beliefs has to do with working together, co-operating and accepting those living around them.

Mythology

A very large collection of stories, art, statues and music are dedicated to the creation, evolution and survival of their people as a culture, species and society. The most frequent aspect of these are the use of the father and mother gods.

Society

They have a very co-operative society that works together to ensure that all of them have the necessary essentials to ensure not only that they have what is needed to survive but what is needed to ensure a good quality of life.

Culture

Music, art and other forms of artistic expression are usually soothing in nature. They inspire a tranquil relaxed state of peaceful enjoyment. Since they discovered the newly reintroduced animal life form called tribbles they have imported thousands and now carefully breed them for their own use.

Customs

Very little is known about their customs as they do not tend to discuss this aspect of their society with outsiders.

Technology

While not as advanced as most Federation member worlds they are still the equal of its least advanced members.

Economy

They have a number of long term trade partners and have re-established trade with the Bajorans. They are also one of the few species to have established favorable trade deals inside the Gamma quadrant.

Military

They have never had any true military as they have been able to maintain a strictly neutral status. They do however maintain a small security unit on all freighters and have mounted enough firepower to deter most pirates or smugglers from attacking them.
