History

In the 22nd century, the Troyians developed interplanetary travel, before or around the same time as the neighboring Elasians. As soon as the two races became aware of one another, relations developed into rivalry and quickly into war.

The complete story of how the war began was still being pieced together by historians and diplomats of the late 23rd century. The battles were fought with relatively crude interplanetary spacecraft, lasers and atomic weapons, all in a major interplanetary war for control over the Tellun system.

The war continued on into the mid-23rd century. Both powers made contact with the Federation in 2258, and soon after became members, but continued to skirmish with each other. By this time, the Troyians had managed to fight the Elasians to a draw.

Meanwhile, Federation scientists conducted a geological survey of Troyius, and discovered the world’s rich stores of valuable heavy metals, mineral deposits, and dilithium crystals. Suddenly, Troyius became a world of significant strategic importance. The Federation then intervened in the conflict, sending a number of negotiators to mediate and broker a peace. Finally, a truce was declared. (

In 2268, the peace negotiations resulted in an arranged marriage between Cosalthan II of Troyius and Dohlman Elaan, daughter of the Elasian ruling family, in hopes of ending the hostilities.

The USS Enterprise was sent to serve as ambassador, aiding peace negotiations and escorting Elaan to Troyius for the marriage. Despite Klingon interference, Elasian sabotage and Elaan's reluctance, the mission was successful.

The centuries of war ended with the marriage of the Cosalthan and Elaan; the pair went on to jointly rule both their worlds

Though Klingons made further attempts to disrupt the peace and gain access to the dilithium deposits, the Tellun system remained stable.

In the twenty years after Federation contact, Troyius flourished and prospered thanks to its influence. Troyius committed itself to developing interstellar trade, and the merchant fleet was improved. A modern spaceport was constructed at the capital of Troilus, and the Interplanetary Bazaar enabled the trade of goods. Troyius developed into a major dilithium supplier for Starfleet and the Federation.

The peace between Troyius and Elas continued through the late 23rd and 24th centuries, with no significant violations of their treaty. However, renewed warfare remained a topic of great concern for the Federation, especially during the Federation-Cardassian War and the Dominion War, given the risk to Starfleet's dilithium supply.

During the Borg Invasion of 2381, Troyius was threatened, but the SCE crew aboard the USS da Vinci succeeded in making the planet temporarily disappear, thus eluding attack. Following the invasion, Troyius hosted numerous refugees and war survivors. In April and May of 2381, the A.C. Walden Medicine Show visited Troyius and played a number of concerts for the refugees there.

The Carter Winston Group established a medical chemical company in the Tellun system sometime prior to 2267. Dr. Karen Patterson worked for this company until late 2268, when she joined Bendes Kettaract's project to create a stable Omega molecule

A period of Elasian-Troyian interplanetary war intersected with the Federation-Klingon Cold War in the 23rd century. By 2268, both the Federation and the Klingon Empire considered the Tellun system to reside within their respective borders. The Federation sought an end to the internal conflict and served as a mediator between Elasians and Troyians, while Klingons tried to subvert the peace efforts.

Troyians had a history of war with their neighboring planet of Elas, and considered the spartan Elasians to be arrogant and primitive compared to the more civilized and polite Troyian society. By 2268, new technological developments made the mutual destruction of the Tellun worlds a possibility. In order to foster a lasting peace, elements of both governments supported an arranged marriage of Elaan, the Dohlman of Elas, to the ruler of Troyius.

In 2268 a secret diplomatic mission of the USS Enterprise to facilitate this marriage was interrupted by sabotage and an indecisive ship-to-ship engagement with a Klingon D7 class battle cruiser. During the course of battle, the Klingons' true interest in the Tellun system, access to Elasian dilithium deposits, was discovered.

Mirror Universe

In the mirror universe, the ISS Enterprise also participated in the same mission between the Elas and Troyius. However, in this reality, Captain Spock negotiated with the Dohlman to gain exclusive access to the dilithium deposits and was able to take control of the Klingon battle cruiser after killing its crew with the use of the Tantalus device. This enabled him to establishing himself in a position of significant power within the Terran Empire.

Orions

At some point in its past, Orions came to Troyius and constructed a Colony there. It became one of their most productive worlds and while they built their cities apart from the Troyians they were basically on friendly terms.

This ended when the notorious Orion pirate Half-a-Man Sooris led his massive pirate fleet, the largest in history, in the devastating sacking of the Tellun system. This lasted for weeks as the pirates outnumbered the defenders, and many Orion Colony crews mutinied to return and defend their homes. The Orion Colony on Troyius was temporarily abandoned, and over 2.5 million people died, including 1.5 million Orions.

Orion civilization was all but wiped from its surface. The incident ruined relations between the Orions and Troyians. Even now after so much time has passed the Orions maintain a separate society from the Troyians. They may conduct trade and co-operate in some endeavours but that is about it.

Government

In the 23rd century, the Troyian governmental arrangement included a Ruler called the Prefect-King or Principus. This is a hereditary position belonging to the oldest male member of the royal family.

In addition to this were the noble families which are ruled by the oldest male member called a Lord and the Troyius Tribunal. This tribunal serves as a house of lords with all its members being selected from among the noble families. In most cases every single noble family has at least one representative as a member of the tribunal.

In addition the Troyius Tribunal was a governmental and legislative body. It advised the Prefect-King and served as judges in their courts. This was in addition to their overseeing many essential functions of the government, all in service to the king.

In 2268, the Tribunal worked with the Elasian Council of Nobles to facilitate an arranged marriage between Elaan, the Dohlman of Elas, and the Troyian ruler, in an attempt to bring peace to the Tellun system.

Description

They are green skinned, blonde haired humanoids. Much like humans they can be of many different heights and weights. However for the most part many of them prefer the finer things such a soft, expensive clothes, wines and perfumes, as a result the first impression many species get of them is that of a overly civilized dandy.

Physiology

As with most humanoids they have a fairly complex system of specialized internal organs as well as certain enzymes and chemical components that differentiate them from other intelligent species.

Psychology

As a species they tend to be fairly stable mentally, however they have strong aggressive tendencies when provoked. For the most part when not provoked they tend to be generally peaceful.

Religion

They observe a trio of deities that are basically a combination of male and female. Each is responsible for a different aspect of their society. The first is Trian who is responsible for all aspects of the family and community. Next is Yoran who is responsible for the environment, arts and all things inspiring. The last one is Rian who is responsible for prosperity, advancement and growth.

Mythology

Theirs is a confusing mess of tales that intertwine the lives of their ancestors with the divine 3. Many of these tales seem to contradict others and one can never truly be sure what the lesson or point of each story may be.

Society

Troyians society was very similar to that of the Elasians, but a little more advanced. They both have a system of nobility that controls their society with a central hereditary ruler. The general population is broken up into basically 3 groups, an artisan class, upper class and lower class.

Acton

A special member of the nobility was the acton. Actone were expected to obey the law at all times and put a stop to any criminal activity they found, essentially operating as an impromptu police force. They could also take up the causes of wronged victims, who could petition them for aid. The Tribunal prosecuted those who sought to hire an acton under false pretences or improper promises.

However, in practice, actone paid more attention to their estates than their duties. Tourist guides about Troyius spoke of them as "knights-errant", but visitors expecting armoured mounted warriors would be disappointed.

Laws introduced on Troyius in the late 23rd century discouraged citizens from carrying weapons, both guns and blades. However, it was still possible to pay for the privilege to bear arms, while members of the nobility had no such restrictions.

Culture

Unlike the Elasians they tend to as a species enjoy most of the arts. Especially music, sculptures and paintings. Since joining the Federation they have imported many new art forms and styles of music. Even going so far as to sponsor visits from various artistic groups and numerous musical performers.

Customs

As with most civilized, intelligent humanoid life forms they have developed a fairly diverse set of unique customs that varies from region to region.

Technology

They have progressed from a fairly low tech species with limited to low warp travel within their sector to the point now where they are the equivalent of many of the Federation member worlds.

In fact they have a shipyard capable of building and repairing any destroyer class or smaller sized ships. This is in addition to a first class star port capable of supporting approximately 20 ships and with a population maximum of 10,000.

Economy

In the late 23rd century, the Troyians committed themselves to developing interstellar trade, and improved their merchant fleet. They started this by scrapping all their military vessels and using the raw materials to build an impressive number of lightly armed freighters. Despite their inexperience in the beginning, Troyian crews were dedicated and enthusiastic. As a result they now have a truly modern, merchant navy.

One of the major reasons that they were able to develop such a strong system of trade is that their planet was rich in natural resources, with valuable heavy metals, mineral deposits, and great quantities of dilithium crystals.

As it turned out Dilithium crystals, called radans by the Troyians, are fairly common on Troyius. Once they became a member of the Federation they became a major source for this vital commodity.

The capital city of Troilus was home to a spaceport constructed in the late 23rd century. There was also the Interplanetary Bazaar, a huge market that enabled the trade of goods such as dilithium, though in limited quantities and strictly controlled by the government.

Military

Prior to their joining the Federation they had a fairly large fleet of primitive frigate and destroyer sized ships. These were scrapped and cut up to provide the basic materials for their lightly armed merchant fleet once they joined the Federation.

Now they maintain a few modern, well equipped destroyers that police their sector of space in co-operation with the Elasians who maintain the exact number of modern destroyers.
