Tovin Aleris is a deeply spiritual man, having trained and served as a monk in service to The Prophets. However, he is also cognizant and respectful of religious and moral diversity, and is not taken to proselytizing. On duty, Tovin is focused and methodical, necessarily studious as part of his role and training. Off duty, Tovin is genial and friendly, if not a little soft-spoken and reserved. Born into the artistic Ih'valla D'jarra, Tovin has a creative streak, enjoying both the creation and consumption of music, carvings and sculptures.
Born during the waning years of the Cardassian Occupation, Tovin Aleris was spared the brunt of the social scarring that the Occupation rent on those older than him. Spared from privation by good fortune and resourceful parents, Tovin was still young and in an impressionable position to watch as the Occupation ended and the introduction to the Federation began. His parents were politically minded, and kept Tovin engaged throughout the political process of Bajor's membership application to the Federation and the subsequent decisions to revoke the request and remain politically neutral throughout the first part of the Dominion War.
Though heavily invested in politics from an early age, Tovin Aleris also felt a deep spiritual tie to his ancestral religion. Amidst the political tumult of Bajor in the post-Occupation era, Tovin found stability and solace in worship and was accepted in training as a Prylar monk upon reaching adulthood. Tovin served as a religious advisor to low-level government officials during his tenure at the Dakeen Monastery, where he was able to sate both his religious leanings and his ever-growing political interests. As his political ambitions grew, Tovin relinquished his vestments for a commission in the Bajoran Militia, using his religious experiences to further his education in the diplomatic processes of Bajor.
After briefly considering a return to the monastery to push towards Vedek or even eventually the Kai, the tumultuous acceptance of Bajor as a member of the Federation amidst the Battle for Bajor inspired Tovin Aleris to strive for a proper diplomatic career. Taking full advantage of Bajor's new status, Tovin enrolled in Starfleet Academy and was fortunate to gain enhanced education during his tenure there by studying the Klingon Invasion of 2389 as it unfolded.
Upon graduating from the Academy, Tovin Aleris received front-line experience by being able to work with the negotiating team on the Federation Transport Union strikes, garnering a reputation as a keen researcher and organizer. This experience netted him a promotion and a transfer to Earth, where Tovin was able to study the Presidential elections of 2392. As well, he was tasked to assist the diplomats that arranged for the historic Presidential visit to Rator III, the new seat of power for the Romulan Star Empire.
Confident and seasoned, Tovin Aleris decided to petition for a post in an active theater of diplomacy, hoping to further his goals of someday gaining Ambassadorial status.
