Tour de Ketar V

  • Stardate 239608-09

The Veritas crew spend shore leave helping the colonists and refugees of Ketar V, while also enjoying the local hospitality.

Helping the Neighbors

Deeply disturbed by the events surrounding the murder of Lt. Cmdr. Illanos, Chief Engineer Geoffrey Teller assembles a volunteer team of officers and crewmen to assist a large group of Romulan refugees who were driven from their homes by the botched Felicium raid conducted by the CCMS. Upon arriving, they find that no help has been forthcoming for the dozens of families who have been left homeless and destitute, forced to live in squalor in the square adjacent to the burnt out shell of their tenement. Over the course of several days and using the majority of the ships emergency supplies, the team conducts an ad-hoc humanitarian relief effort for the refugees, distributing supplies and medical aid while hastily rebuilding their shattered homes. Initially wary, the Romulans come to begrudgingly respect the efforts of the Starfleet team and, before they leave the surface, present them with a rare gift. Three bottles of vintage Romulan Kali-Fal from before the fall of Romulus.

Cowboy Cruises

In an effort to raise morale, Assistant Chief Engineer and Vice Admiral Winning Pants Wil Ukinix assembles a large portion of the Veritas crew to take part in the 'Tour de Ketar V Pub Crawl.' The Five stage event sees the crew, through clever use of the transporter, moving from location to location automatically as the hour chimes, with a variety of hilarious results.

Stage One - 1900 hours to 2000 hours - Welder's Diner - Returning to the scene of an incident that saw Captain Rahman, Cmdr. Kelrod and Lt. Ukinix briefly detained by the CCMS, the first stop on the tour is an greasy spoon diner that promises (and delivers) the best burgers on the planet. As the crew loads up on the tasty local fair, Ensign Andy Monroe catches the eye of a waitress and decides to order the special.

Stage Two - 2000 hours to 2100 hours - The Settler's Arms Pub - With energetic drinking underway, a friendly game of darts is interrupted by the arrival of two absolutely fabulous (or, outrageously annoying) women who befriend Doctor Addison MacKenzie whilst tossing shade at everyone else. The tour goers also run across Gaz & Daymo, a pair of dock workers who had been instrumental in helping some of the crew track down an important link in the Illanos drug trafficking empire. The friendly pair are invited to join in the festivities and join the tour for the rest of the evening, unaware they're being pursued by parties unknown.

Stage Three - 2100 hours to 2200 hours - The Singing Shoals Karaoke Lounge - As a small transporter mishap drops a micturating Geoffrey Teller into a dumpster behind the venue, the rest of the gang steps inside and meets Seran, the talented but dour Vulcan manager of the lounge. Beginning to feel the effects of their libations, crew members take to the stage and perform a host of Terran classics until they're interrupted by the self-proclaimed Ketar V Championship Karaoke team and abruptly challenged to a singoff. Jayla Petras, backed up by the entirety of the assembled pub crawlers, does honor to Starfleet and the good ship Veritas by delivering a spectacular performance of 'That Don't Impress Me Much,' which ends victoriously as the crew is whisked to their next locale. A woman in red, unseen by the gang, is frustrated by her inability to get close to Gaz & Daymo for reasons that have yet to reveal themselves.

Stage Four - 2200 hours to 2215 hours - The Explosive Decompression Bar - This grimy bar, outside of which the body of Cmdr. Illanos was discovered, is an unlikely choice for their fourth and penultimate destination. Inside, the gang finds deafening live Andorian thrash metal, dangerously toxic drinks, and a crowd that seems prepared for violence at the drop of a hat. G'var, reveling in the thunderous music and rowdy atmosphere, is convinced she has spotted an old flame of Geoffrey Teller's across the bar, but the woman remains out of reach when that hat does, inevitably, drop. The crew is forced to make a strategic withdrawal to their final destination as a crowd of violently drunk soccer hooligans begin closing in from all sides. The woman in red is once again stymied in her pursuit of Gaz & Daymo who are still unaware they are being stalked.

Stage Five - 2215 hours to 2300 hours - The Republic Arms Plate & Pint - Concluding their evening in the cozy environs of the Republic Arms, the bedraggled crew, now deeply inebriated, dump themselves into comfortable loungers and plush bar stools as they take in the soothing jazz quintet and the substantially less soothing karaoke efforts of Wil Ukinix and Geoffrey Teller. The night draws to a close as the Veritas crew returns to the ship to find a stern faced Captain Rahman awaiting their return in the transporter room while on the planet below, Gaz & Daymo are waylaid at gunpoint by the Woman in Red, who demands they return an artifact the two claim to know nothing about.

Particle Alchemy

Apparently suffering from a severe migraine, Lt. Cmdr. Sky Blake makes her way to sickbay on unsteady legs and all but collapses onto a biobed. When Doctor Addison MacKenzie examines her, she discovers the problem is far more serious than a simple headache and enlists the aid of Chief Engineer Geoffrey Teller. Exotic metaphasic particles, used years before in an unorthodox and highly illegal medical procedure, have begun to break down within Blake's spine, threatening her life. Working in tandem, MacKenzie & Teller are able to stabilize Blake's condition but the prognosis is grim and the situation is complicated further when they discover that all the files related to the original procedure have been classified. A difficult conversation with the Captain leads them both to pursue new avenues of research and, in the case of Teller, to create a modified EMHMKVI to help them discover a treatment for Blake before time runs out.

Traveling the River

Concerned about the emotional state of his Par'Mach'kai, Lt. G'var, Wil Ukinix enlists the aid of Geoffrey Teller & Addison MacKenzie to conduct a Klingon Rite of Ascension ceremony in the ships holodeck. Lt. G'var is moved by the gesture and, although she had already undergone the ritual as a child under the cruel gaze of hateful parents, she chose to rededicate herself to her newfound family aboard the Veritas. As she travels the River of Pain, she recalls the difficult journey she has faced to reach this point, and reflects on the differences between the family she was born into, and the family she has built.

Mans Best Friend

Thinking fondly of her disabled brother Jason, Lt. Jg. Charlena Vanlith begins construction of a robotic assistant named Baxter, which takes the form of an agile mechanical K9. After an early design failure causes the Engineering lab to be thrown into disarray, Lt. Cmdr. Geoffrey Teller lends a hand and an ear to the young engineer to complete the project in time for Jason's birthday. A lucky break in the tetryon interference that typically makes long range communication impossible allows Charlena to reconnect with her brother for the first time since coming aboard the Veritas, leading to an emotional and uplifting conversation for them both.

Welcome Aboard

The Veritas welcomes aboard an old friend in the person of Lt. Solak, formerly of the USS Solaris, as their new Stellar Cartographer. The particularly stoic Vulcan quickly makes an impression on the crew as he introduces himself to the Captain and their new Operations officer, Ensign Tahlin Alse, who is frantically attempting to restock the depleted Veritas stores by any means necessary.

The Veritas also becomes home to a new Engineering crewman named C'lem Fan'da'go who is unsure if you can hear him, and wants to make certain that you know it is, in fact, he, C'lem Fan'da'go, and that he has just come aboard.
