Backstory/Timeline
Tom Westerbridge was born on Alpha Centauri VII to his parents Doug and April Westerbridge. Even though Tom Westerbridge was born on Alpha Centauri VII, he is still a human descended from Earth. Both his parents are humans descended from Earth. Many humans live on many planets of Alpha Centauri System, because Sol and Alpha Centauri are just 4.3 light years apart. The Westerbridges are farmers on the planet Alpha Centauri VII, and the family own their own farm on the planet Alpha Centauri VII.
Tom grew up as a farm boy in his family farm. Naturally farm life wasn't too easy, because Tom had to do laborious farm chores everyday. Even with all 24th century mechanization, working at a farm is still laborious like taking care of farm animals. Even though the farm tasks were hard, it build certain life values like discipline and hard work. In addition, Tom developed a strong body.
As Tom was growing up, he was more interested in playing outside than doing school work. Tom participated in sports. His school performance was OK, because he was pushed by his parents to study. When Tom graduated from local school at the age 18, he didn't really knew what he wanted to do with his life. His older brother Walter came back to family farm after going away for few years. His brother Walter wanted to take care of the family farm. Tom stayed and worked at his family farm, because he didn't still have any life plans.
Then one day, he stumbled upon Starfleet advertisement. Tom decided to join Starfleet, because he thought the Starfleet would give him a life purpose which he was seeking. Tom studied hard for the Starfleet Academy entrance examination. Tom failed the Starfleet Entrance exam the first time, and he studied harder. Tom passed the examination, and then he attended Starfleet Academy on Earth.
At first Tom didn't know what major he should do. Tom eventually decided upon security, because the major suited him. Mainly Tom had a physical body for security field. Tom majored in security field. Tom minored in tactical. Tom graduated from the Starfleet Academy.
