I'm not sure about an awful lot of this, if I'm honest. It was McCoy (and therefore much later than T'Pol) that said "Well, there aren't any regulations against romance, Jim." We have also seen relationships between direct superiors and subordinates with a significant rank difference in canon: Captain Picard once engaged in a relationship with one of his science officers - he ended it not because of any regulation, but because of his own concerns about his ability to be her superior officer and significant other. I don't think it's wise to enter a slew of non-canon regulations into the group when we've never really seen any hint of them on screen in the era we're playing in. --Quinn /talk page 09:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Quinn,

My apologies for not replying sooner, but I only just saw this. That is a very interesting quote. I suppose I'll make my intentions when I compiled this document clear...

I believe that never never never should an IC "rule" interfere with OOC fun. The way these rules are structured, I believe, is that they are not a problem unless you choose to make them a problem for your character. The intention is never, never to affect the fun of UFOP simmers- if you feel that this IS the case, then feel free to propose a revision of the document (or edit it yourself). I don't claim to be an authority on anything and just because I write something doesn't mean it's "right".

I personally believe that there is sufficient ambiguity for things to go either way and that is quite deliberate. The bottom line is, I believe, is that these things are left up to the individual players (with input from their Commanding Officers). If you are simming in UFOP and want to have a story arc where your character engages in a ship-board romance which you, as the player, wish your character to be punished for there is certainly enough here to do that (supported by canon). Equally, if you wish to engage in a shipboard romance where you do not wish the character to be punished, then that is entirely do-able (and equally supported by canon). It was not- and will never be- my intention to discourage players from having fun with simming, nor to discourage plot arcs that are in keeping with the OOC rules of the UFOP. --AlleranTan 12:43, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
