:I'm under the impression that it was originally created to provide the difference between different matters (obviously). Whilst this is in discussion, I'm going to clean it up and add more into this - mainly because it is an interesting idea and could be useful for those simming characters interested in this topic, and for those looking for the differences between them all - saves people from having to search Memory Alpha for it, I guess. == Created nor destroyed.... ==
Umm, this isn't strictly true. Its ''energy'' that cannot be created nor destroyed, matter can be freely converted to and from energy. This tends to be a common misconception resulting from the law of Conservation of Mass (particularly in its application to Special Relativity) where mass tends to be linked (incorrectly) to Matter, not Energy. In reality, "Certain types of matter may be created or destroyed, but in all of these processes, the energy and mass associated with such matter remains unchanged in quantity (although type of energy associated with the matter may change form)."
