T'Raene did not expect to end up in starfleet, at first preferring a civilian lifestyle and was recommended to join later on than most due to her bond-partner's involvement in Starfleet, who was a medical officer in Starfleet. She completed a Nurse's degree easily and was near the end of her doctor's degree when an attack by Romulans on her bond-mate's ship resulted in the latter's death.

She was visiting the ship on the way to a medical conference to finish off a report when the ship was attacked by a Romulan scout just outside the neutral zone. Her husband was killed in the attack and T'Raene calmly carried out a nurse's duties. When the battle was over and the scouts captured she was offered a position at the starfleet academy as a medical student by the head of the department.

By the time she had recovered from the shock of losing it was by far too late for her to complete the course for her doctor's degree. As a result T'Raene reasoned that as she knew the content of the course and could complete it capably then it would be pointless to go through the four years again simply for the title. As such she is an unofficial Doctor and a verified Nurse Practitioner. As such T'Raene works at the knowledge level of a doctor yet remains as a Nurse with no intention of obtaining the title, instead dedicating her life to helping those she can, presumably in order to help the families affected by any deaths.

However T'Raene considers these events in the past and unchangeable, so therefore not worthy of further contemplation. She tends to be firm but gentle, often coming across as slightly gruff and protective of those in her care, particularly children. In a moment of peace she MAY be found reading a regency era romance, normally trying to work out why the characters took such illogical courses of action. A second motive is to discover why the books are strangely compelling, so far she has not succeeded.
