Syrol, a Vulcan male and former Altern of the Vulcan High Command, was a civilian Stellar Cartographer aboard the USS Independence-A. After a series of catastrophes, culminating in the destruction of the USS Independence-A, he chose to discontinue his association with Starfleet and to seek a less dangerous location for himself and his family.
