Personal History

  • Before Andoria:

Suvnak was born on the capital city of ShirKahr on Vulcan. He attended the Vulcan Learning Center since his first few years of age, and he excelled in it. Ever since he was a child, Suvnak had an affinity to understanding the complexity of the individual, and so his teachers thought he would study sociology or head for the political areas of study, and even Suvnak himself believed for a long time that his path lay there. Until he discovered a famous, ancient painting from a long forgotten culture and felt the need to try and decipher the logical reasons of making the painting in the first place. Since he could find no answers anywhere else, thanks to the antiquity of the painting and its culture's obscure past, he grew obsessed with it. He didn't think much of his reaction; it seemed completely natural for someone like him to study something as interesting as that.

Eventually, though, he grew to appreciate art on its own, rather than seeing it as a tool to gain knowledge and understanding; yes, he still believed in its impact on art, but he no longer searched for this only. As he grew older, Suvnak made painting his favourite pastime and his area of expertise. He was somewhat criticised by his peers, but he paid no attention to this, believing it to be his own path to take even if no one else understood it. He entered the Vulcan Science Academy and studied art in many different cultures aside from his own, as well as the practice of it. Since his studies on the VSA were considerably long-term as he didn't seem to stop learning more, it was his eleventh year in the Academy when he was accepted to enter in an exchange programme on Andor's Art Academy, which was the best place for anyone with an interest in art to study.

  • A Year on Andor's Art Academy:

He was already familiar with Andorians, as many came to study at the VSA, but a certain individual caught his interest, thanks to his relentless pursuit to understand Suvank's character. Suvnak could understand the need to comprehend each person's characteristics as part of a society and yet apart, but it was intriguing to find such same drives in other people. This particular Andorian had been introduced to him by a classmate of his, VyZimi, as being her close friend. His name was EkaTyhl, and Suvnak came to appreciate his company, even if he was subjected to numerous social experiments to determine his emotional state. He understood Tyhl's reasons to study him, and so he gladly cooperated.

Until one day Tyhl inquired about the Vulcan mind meld, and as Suvnak explained to him what the process involved, Tyhl began asking to have the experience himself, especially if it would give him insight of a mind so closed to others as a Vulcan's. This was the one experiment Suvnak was reluctant to participate in, since what that mind meld represented was beyond what he could explain to the eager Andorian. Eventually though, he chose to go through the process with Tyhl, not only because he thought that all questions should be granted an answer and it was logical to aid in that regard if he could, but because he found himself trusting Tyhl. And when he finally went through with it, he found a truth both in the Andorian and in himself that he could not ignore: they had grown to care for each other so deeply that their relationship had reached a higher level of appreciation that Suvnak knew or was ready to know. Both of them had fallen in love with the other.

Suvnak could not comprehend why or how that could have happened; it was true that they had many similarities that allowed Suvnak to feel better related to another being than he ever had on Vulcan, but he had never expected such a connection to go deeper than simple friendship, which he'd believed would not last further than his stay on Andoria.

It was not unheard of for Vulcans to bond with members of other species; they were, after all, a culture which embraced differences and diversity, but to have a marriage that could produce no offspring was simply contradicting the very point of marriage. Therefore, it was illogical for their relationship to continue, and Suvnak closed himself off from any further interaction with Tyhl for the rest of his stay on the ice moon.

  • After Andoria:

When the year was over, Suvnak returned to Vulcan to continue his studies on the Science Academy. He tried different methods to forget about his experiences on Andoria, but he found that he could not cast out the young Andorian from his mind. Never had something troubled him so much, and he decided to consult his parents on the matter, trying to move past his shame and ask for guidance. What they said surprised him; they said they supported his idea if he still found it in himself to contact the Andorian and continue with their relationship. They convinced him that since their species was in no danger of extinction anytime soon, producing offspring was not mathematically obligatory for all members of the species. In addition, they reminded Suvnak there were few things in a Vulcan life which could be guided by limited emotion if logic allowed it, and bonding with another being, even if from another species, was one of them. And he understood what he had to do next.

It had been only a month since he'd last seen Tyhl, but he was surprised at the emotional state in which he found the Andorian when he came to speak to him on his home in the city of Dira. He seemed to be in a really dark realm of emotion, though Suvnak was incapable of defining it. He exposed his experiences upon his return to Vulcan and retold his parents' advice on the matter. The change on Tyhl's mood was almost immediate, and he proceeded to cry in relief, though he would later deny it. They arranged to have monthly meetings on the Art Academy until Tyhl graduated the year after and Suvnak took him to Vulcan for the first time. He began to live in Suvnak's residence in ShirKahr while the Vulcan continued his studies. They formally bonded in the Vulcan tradition the following year, since Andorian customs were more complex and did not allow two-people bonds. Both continued to enjoy each other's company and produce new art in their respective forms.

Since Suvnak had been studying on the Vulcan Science Academy for several years, and had studied a year on Andor's Academy, his teachers proposed to him to begin teaching, as they felt he had nothing else to learn from them. Suvnak agreed, and began teaching certain courses about art on the Academy. He's been teaching there ever since.
