|LOG=Though the sting of Alex's sudden departure hasn't quite faded, recent events have given me something to look forward to. Yesterday, the Captain promoted me to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. It was bittersweet in a way, given both Alex's absence and Chythar's struggles to regain his rank, but today is a new day and I'm thoroughly excited about the possibilities. Never would I have imagined a year ago after having returned from a year in hell that I would see this day. It continues to amaze me how much difference time has made in healing old wounds. Maddy, my young ward (and I hope soon, my adopted daughter) has given me so much strength. Being responsible for her has pushed me to overcome my fears. Another blessing in disguise that I hadn't counted on is Jon. He's been amazingly supportive and patient as I try to be better at opening up to and trusting others.
