The Type 11 shuttle was seen in action in "Insurrection", but we learned relatively little about it beyond the fact that it has a cockpit cabin which is separated from the rest of the interior - something quite unusual in Federation shuttlecraft - and docking port above the passenger compartment which is presumably behind the cockpit. The presence of nacelles indicates that the ship is warp capable; while we know nothing about speeds, I have assumed that the shuttle is a fast one in line with the Type 9 and 10 shuttles. The Aerowing has been modified to the crew's own specifications. This large warp-capable shuttle is docked to the ventral side of the saucer of the USS Frontier in a recessed hatchway just aft of the ventral sensor array. The Aerowing provides a large secondary craft, long-range travel, and the protection, armament, and sensor capabilities beyond that of a standard auxiliary shuttle. Facilities include two sleeping bunks and a standard runabout-type passenger cabin. A replicator and flight couches provide for the needs of the passengers and a two-person transporter allows for beaming of personnel or cargo when needed. The Aerowing possesses superior atmospheric flight capabilities. | |||
