A joined Trill physician and thus far the most singularly "interesting" individual Sera has ever met. This remains to be seen if this is a good thing for them, as Vulcans have a tendency to make pretty significant, long-lasting decisions based on such seemingly arbitrary curiosity. Her sudden retreat when their interaction was going well was due in part to being unable to verbally express what she was...feeling, and also that she had ingested a fair amount of the Vulcan intoxicant - cinnamon. | A joined Trill physician and thus far the most singularly "interesting" individual Sera has ever met. This was due in part to her rather unorthodox upbringing within a remote clan (Lyr Zor) that could trace back their origins to well before the time of Surak. Isolated by remote geography in the Southern hemisphere, Lyr T'aya is an ancient walled city abutting the Vuldi Gorge; and does not make a habit of welcoming nonmembers.
The ancient Lyr Zor, once spoken of in fervent whispers, were secretive, martial in nature, and were utilized by some Royal Houses as spies and assassins, if the price was right. They were one of the last clans to adopt Surak’s teachings and, even then, did not open themselves to outsiders. Much of the clan’s social customs, behaviors, and hierarchy are still unknowns even in modern day, as Lyr Zor clan members do not discuss their ways with outsiders, including other Vulcans.
Sera was unable to achieve mastery over her emotions in the way that her family and clan required as the Lyr Zor devoted themselves to the most orthodox interpretations of Surak’s philosophy, espousing emotions were not to be suppressed but eliminated. Her entire Vulcan worldview has been skewed through the lenses of her clan’s “eyes.” Sera became a black sheep within her family and the community, with an inquisitive nature and struggles to subsume and eliminate her emotions.
The catalyst for application to Starfleet Academy is not something that Sera ever discusses with anyone, as it is a most private, and frankly distressing event she has little desire to recount. Needless to say, after her pre-marital bond was dissolved without any real input from her, Sera abandoned her family and community and fled to Shir'Kahr for the express purpose of learning the required Federation Standard and taking the Starfleet entrance exam.

As she never left her home before leaving for the Academy, and she is in many ways innocent and naïve. She quiet and dependable, but few really know her at all. Hers is one face amongst many, often overlooked. However, this has given her a tremendous amount of freedom to study those around her. She “enjoys” understanding how things work, and the solitude has given her the opportunity to analyze and evaluate those around her. That desire for dissecting things to achieve complete understanding is what drove her to declare as an Engineering major. Malfunctioning equipment did not mock her social ignorance, and a code is a code is a code and nothing else.
