Shortly after joining the crew of the USS Eagle, the newly minted Ensign Drex headed to the ship's gymnasium. There she saw another young woman putting a heavy bag through its paces. Kayla, having trained for years (out of both fitness motivation and pure interest) in various forms of martial art and hand-to-hand combat, asked Blackwell if she'd "like a moving target." The two were evenly matched in sparring, and after an exhaustingly enjoyable workout, both lay panting on the mat. You can't beat a good workout buddy. | Shortly after joining the crew of the USS Eagle, the newly minted Ensign Drex headed to the ship's gymnasium. Quentin joined the Eagle at the end of Kayla's first mission. While she was busying herself with various post-mission tasks, he was checking-in. She offered to show him around one of the Eagle's science labs, and the two quickly discovered they shared an identical enthusiasm for their work. Though Quentin's enthusiasm and Kayla's are inspired by different core passions, the two work well together, often getting caught up in a veritable hurricane of exuberance that some non-science crew find ... well, geeky.

|BLURB=During the Eagle's first mission in the Aavaro Wilds they encounter two new species, the Mithgiln and the Verellians. The former helping the latter with a plague the crew must decide how, and if, they can help. | |||
Kayla was part of the away team that went the surface of Verellia to collect a sample of the virus and determine the cause of the outbreak. She collected the sample shortly after beaming down, and was later involved in rescuing Lieutenant Choi from the Aggregate forces that had kidnapped him. In retrospect, Kayla realized that some of her decisions while on the surface were made hastily and could have endangered the lives of the rest of her team. Fortunately, they all returned safely to the Eagle, but she made a mental note to think before acting next time.

|BLURB=The Cardassian Democratic Union has asked the Federation for assistance in retrieving an ancient artifact on Edrov VII. The USS Eagle Has been sent to aid in the recovery. | |||
Kayla and Ensign Collins were joined in the astrometrics lab by two enlisted crewmen to get a first peek at the 3rd moon of the 7th planet in the Edrov system. The display was startlingly beautiful, but a bit ... off. After adjusting the sensors, the science team discovered the energy being sent from the moon to the gas giant it orbited was causing a Jovian ignition - turning the gas giant into a new star - but doing so in temporal bursts.
