Teg grew up at the Bajoran monastery at Dakeen. His father was the gardener and his mother was an administrator. He was born shortly after the end of the Occupation. His parents are older than would be expected as they had waited until after the Cardassians left Bajor before having children. He has two younger siblings, his brother Avin and his sister Xarja. Because of the isolated nature of the monastery, Teg and his siblings were taught by the monks for all their education. Because of this, Teg is very spiritual. He has a strong faith in the Prophets and follows a very orthodox practise of his religion. But, the isolation left him wanting to learn more, not only of Bajor, but of the galaxy as a whole. It was this yearning that lead him to join Starfleet. He spent a year at a preparatory school to fill out his education, then applied to Starfleet. He found his faith challenged by the secular classes at the Academy, but came through the experience with a stronger faith. Although the classes were tough, the strong work ethic he learned from his father working the grounds of the monastery served him well. He found that he had a natural ability for engineering, and pursued that field as his major. He is now looking forward to putting that training to good use. | |||
