Following his graduation, he was assigned as an Engineering Officer aboard the ''Columbia''. He was present when they discovered 'Mercy'- a deadly weapons delivery system authorised by unknown parties within the Federation. The end of the mission- which led to the destabilization of Providence's matrix and ultimately, her loss- left Theo deeply troubled and struggling to understand how Starfleet could have authourised the experiment in the first place. A short while later he found a confidant in fellow engineer [[Oori, Nuvia| Nuvia Oori]] and opened up to her.
