Witherington Colony

Sansom Coulee

Briarpatch.jpg

The Samsom Coulee is a complicated network of interstellar gorges packed with perilous asteroid fields, intense plasma clouds, and unpredictability. The area is infamous for its navigational dangers, including as abrupt shifts in subspace currents and gravitational disturbances that may send a starship off course or even tear it apart.

Given its perils, the Samsom Coulee is a critical strategic position since it serves as a major bypass for trade routes between the Cardassian Union and the Federation. The Maquis, on the other hand, have made it their home, exploiting the canyons to hide their bases and conduct strikes against Cardassian objectives. The Maquis are masters at manipulating the terrain to their advantage, employing natural cover to elude pursuit and conduct ambushes on their foes.

The Cardassian military has sought to map the Samsom Coulee and develop specific navigational algorithms to help their ships, but the dynamic nature of the terrain makes this a difficult endeavour. Even with superior technology, numerous Cardassian ships have been lost in the Coulee, yielding vital prizes and knowledge to the Maquis. The Samsom Coulee is still a dangerous and unpredictable region of space, and only the most competent pilots can safely navigate it.

Peshkova Colony

Peshkova.png

Peshkova Colony is located in a distant region of the Demilitarized Zone, far from the Alpha Quadrant's major commercial lines and political hubs. A group of individual settlers established the colony in order to escape the hardships of life in the Federation and start a fresh existence on the frontier. Peshkova has survived and thrived through a mixture of hard labour, resourcefulness, and luck, and its remote location near the Sansom Coulee has deflected Cardassian interest.

Outsiders may find Peshkova uninteresting, yet it has become a crucial centre for the Maquis resistance. After a successful operation, the colony provides a safe refuge for Maquis combatants who need to recuperate, refuel, or lay low. The colonists support the Maquis cause and are eager to contribute their talents and knowledge in exchange for security and assistance.

Notwithstanding the risks, many Maquis cells see Peshkova as a lifeline that allows them to recuperate and plan their future steps. The Cardassians, for their part, have mostly disregarded the colony, deeming it tiny enough to require little concern. Yet, when the fight between the Maquis and the Cardassians escalates, it remains to be seen whether Peshkova will remain a safe haven or become a battleground in the struggle for control of the DMZ.

Outpost Schulman

Schulman.jpg

Schulman, despite its humble look, has a long and illustrious history that precedes its prominence as a Maquis stronghold. The world previously had a vibrant mining sector, with massive mineral riches buried deep under the surface. Miners from all across the Alpha Quadrant have been flocking to Schulman for years, expecting to strike it rich in its tunnels and shafts.

The mining boom, however, was brief. The ore seams proved to be more difficult and risky to extract than expected, with several accidents and cave-ins. When mining expenses soared and profitability declined, firms that had previously invested in Schulman began to withdraw, leaving behind a maze of abandoned mines and tunnels.

In this context, the Maquis landed on Schulman in search of a concealed base of operations where they could relax and replenish. The colonists who stayed on the planet were sympathetic to the Maquis cause, and the outpost quickly became an important resistance centre.

The Cardassians, on the other hand, were not willing to let the Maquis operate freely. They attacked on the outpost with overwhelming force when they eventually located it, determined to eliminate the Maquis presence once and for all. The crew of the Skarbek laboured diligently to rescue people and Maquis militants during the carnage that ensued, narrowly averting annihilation themselves.

Now, Schulman is but a memory, a forgotten nook of the DMZ where once stood a little outpost giving hope and safety to those fighting for independence.
