Background
Born in a rural town, the second son of a the village farrier, Dag was no stranger to hard work and long hours. His father was a pleasant likeable man with a kind nature that often meant long hours of work for neighbours and very often unpaid.
They lived in well kept house that his mother Joy tended along with him and his brother and sister. His brother Pavel (Ironic since his name means timid or small) was always one of the bigger kids, who was always dreaming of leaving the village to pursue his fortune abroad. He eventually joined a deep space resupply ship, where he has lived for the past few years.
Dag has not seen him since before he left for Starfleet Academy.
His younger sister Maryjane learned early about finances from their mother Joy who collected the fees for most of Jeff's work. Her skills developed enough to grant her admission as a junior clerk to one of the corporations that financed interplanetary mining. Since her admission they too have minimal contact.
The skills Dag learned working the towns and villages of his home world allowed him to join the Zeon citizen defence program where he was eventually noticed by a visiting Starfleet recruiting officer. Although slightly older than the other cadets he managed to make friends and applied himself to the training diligently.
He wasn't the smartest pupil and some courses took extra lessons to complete, but he always completed all his tasks. His friends from the academy were always eager to help and gave him constant encouragement in the first years. In the final year of academy he knew his friends better than his own family, often seeing them barely 2 or 3 times a year during breaks when he returned to his home planet. He knew he would always be able to count on his academy classmates and remained in contact with them on Starfleet communications.
