Starfleet Officer's Handbook


Service Ribbons are in character (IC) decorations presented to officers for acts of heroism and participation in a vessel's missions or campaign. Ribbons can be received at any time, but are generally presented alongside crew promotions. It is not uncommon for all members of a crew to receive campaign ribbons.

Service ribbons should only be displayed on the specific character that received the service ribbon. Any service ribbon may be awarded multiple times. A gold star represents each repeated citation, and a silver star represents five additional citations (and therefore five gold stars).
