Service Ribbons are in character (IC) decorations presented to characters for acts of heroism and participation in plots and campaigns. Ribbons can be received at any time, but are generally presented alongside crew promotions. It is not uncommon for all members of a crew to receive campaign ribbons.
There are five categories of service ribbons:

IC vs. OOC
The difference between awards, pennants, badges, and service ribbons:
- awards and badges: Presented for OOC accomplishments by an individual simmer/writer. Awards and badges can be displayed on any and all characters' pages of that simmer/writer.
- service ribbons: Presented for IC performed by a specific character. Service ribbons can only be displayed on that specific character's page.
- pennants: Presented for OOC accomplishments by a united crew. Pennants can be displayed on simming installation pages.
Specific Character Policy
Because service ribbons are In Character decorations (unlike awards), they are NOT to be shared across characters and can only be displayed on the wiki profile of the specific character to whom they were presented.
Multiple Citations Policy
Any service ribbon may be awarded multiple times. A gold star represents each repeated citation, and a silver star represents five additional citations (and therefore five gold stars). For certain campaign ribbons awarded for participation in multi-phase campaigns, bronze stars represent the completion of a specific number of campaign phases.

Displaying Service Ribbons
To easily display service ribbons on a bio or service rack, use Template:Ribbons or Template:Ribbons Rack.
To display all of your collected awards and service ribbons in a display case for your bio, use Template:Ribbons Display.
