:: Lael sighed as she slipped into her evening wear, then retrieved a cup of tea from the replicator. Sleep tonight was going to be difficult. She had a lot weighing on her mind. The poor girl was only five and she was already an orphan. She still couldn’t understand why Abby had thought she’d be a fit guardian for the girl. She could barely care for herself most days. But Jansen had been right about one thing...she owed it to Abby and to Maddy. Suddenly, the door chime rang. Tying her robe, she called out… ::

Rosek: Enter!

:: Chythar entered wearing a pair of sweats and a tank top, ready for bed but not at the same time. Then from beside him, Devlin placed his paws on her leg and gave a yip of greeting.::

Skyfire: How are ye doing?

Rosek: :: grins wryly :: Alright considering. There’s a lot going on. ::laughs:: I’m still trying to process everything from my trip to Luraul. ::smiles and shakes her head:: I have my own house. Dad bought it for me. :: pauses :: Okay, so it’s more of an estate. Has a barn, too...and creatures that look and act oddly similar to horses.

Skyfire: Ah have the feeling there's more to this. :: He had a seat on the couch and let her talk. ::

Rosek: :: laughs :: My dad bought me a house! Can you believe that? I’ve barely known the man a few months and he bought me a house! Not just any house...an estate house in one of the most sought after areas on the planet!

:: CD didn't think he’d ever own the ranch, as the Moonsong clan was larger than just him. So, he wasn't sure what to make of it. He nodded faintly and petted Devlin when the beagle padded into his lap. ::

Skyfire: Interesting.

Rosek: :: shakes her head :: These last few months, my life has been turned completely upside down. I met my biological father, I got engaged only to back out of it, I got to met my dad's family, see Luraul for the first time, got a house, am looking at finally getting my back fixed for good...and I've become a guardian to a five year old girl. ::shakes her head:: I never imagined…

:: Chythar shrugged. He knew how things could change over the last few months. He’d grown closer to Alex, and they’d been sharing quarters off and on along with custody of Devlin. ::

Skyfire: Lots o’ things ah never imagined either...but they happened.

Rosek: : :murmurs :: Still haven't quite wrapped my head around it all. ::sombers:: And I miss Jax desperately. Can't seem to get past that.

Skyfire: :: gently :: Is Tobian still your therapist? He might be able to offer suggestions.

Rosek: :: nods :: I've tried a few things. ::grimaces:: Visiting dad was supposed to be one of them...getting away for awhile. But seeing Jansen only brings it back sharper...knowing I'll never have that.

Skyfire: :: again, gently. :: Have you considered putting yourself back on the market, as it were?

Rosek: ::nods:: I've gone on a couple dates...Nefan, Anjar...I just don't have much interest.

Skyfire: Ah might know a fellow who ye dunnae have a past with who might be interested in joinin’ ye for coffee. :: Granted, he didn’t know if Nefan had a history with her as well but it was worth a shot. ::

:: Devlin crawled into her lap and nuzzled her, resting his paws on her shoulder. Chythar continued on with his thoughts, before he lost them. ::

Skyfire: He’s a decent sort of chap, very athletic and loves the water.

Rosek: ::pauses:: Maybe after I recover some from my surgery.

:: He nodded faintly and collected his thoughts, Devlin giving her face another lick. ::

:: She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, murmuring into his ear… ::

Rosek: I appreciate that you're worried about me and want to help. But I'll be alright. Don't stress yourself out over it. I'm managing fine. Just confused and uncertain is all.

:: It took him a few moments to compose himself to the point where he could comfortably slip back into his Irish. ::

Skyfire: Ah’m callin’ bull, Lael. If yeh were managing fine, ye’d have figured out how to either tell Dassa about it or keep it from her more effectively.

Rosek: I guess that's the problem. I don't want to keep it from her. I'm tired of this star-crossed affair that we have. But telling her the truth would hurt her more than I can bear.

:: He took a breath as he listened, then came to a grim conclusion. If there was nothing else he could do, he had only one last play to try and help. ::

Skyfire: Only thing ah can think of is teach yeh about reinforcing your shields to keep her from finding out by accident.

Rosek: ::sombers:: I couldn't ask that of you. Not after what you went through with Shira. What if I make a mistake? I can't risk you having to bear the burden of my memories from over there on top of your own.

:: He pondered that over, and understood the risk. However, his refined method didn’t involve mental contact. Devlin placed his nose on Chythar’s cheek to get a reaction, and the doc began petting his little friend. ::

Skyfire: Not to worry. Ah won’t be making mental contact this time. Just teaching you a trick or two.

Rosek: ::pauses:: For the record, this makes me nervous. I still don't quite have a leash on my abilities.

Skyfire: Or, ah could leave ye to it. Your choice.

:: As much as he hated to admit it, the possibility of this idea failing was high. ::

Rosek: :: pauses and nods :: But at the first sign of trouble, we both slam our shields as high as they can go.

:: He nodded faintly in understanding. ::

Skyfire: Done. And Ah won’t be droppin’ mine at all for this one. :: He put the rock back in his pocket, still petting Devlin as he sat back. ::

Rosek: Holodeck?

Skyfire: If you want.

:: Lael nodded. This whole situation was such a mess. She wanted to accept Chythar’s help, but things were so much more complicated than he knew. And she couldn’t tell him because Jansen had sworn her to secrecy. She sighed. It would be easier to walk away from Jansen at this point...save herself the heartache of losing him. Her nightmares were coming to life before her eyes and there wasn’t a thing she could do to stop it. Before, she could at least assure herself that they weren’t real. That security had been taken from her like a rug pulled from under her feet. And boy, was she smarting from it. ::

:: Even if it was the right thing to do, staying was going to cost her dearly. God only knew when she’d recover from it and if she’d be able to stave off the depression that would inevitably come with it. But this much she knew...Jansen hadn’t given up on her when she’d needed him most and she wasn’t about to give up on him.::

Rosek: The beach?

:: Chythar raised an eyebrow. She was bothered, and nothing he seemed to be offering was helping. His beach might provide a distraction, but he didn’t think she was serious about taking him up on the lesson because her heart didn’t seem to be in it. ::

Skyfire: You want to just go for a walk instead?

Rosek: :: sighs :: Maybe until I can get this all straight in my mind. I’m on information and emotional overload right now. As much as I know you want to help, I don’t think you can right now. I’m being faced with a choice...one that no one else can make for me. You don’t have all the facts and I suppose I don’t have the objectivity right now.

:: He nodded faintly, slowly coming to the realization there was nothing more he could do. He got up, and Devlin bounded off his lap onto the floor. ::

Skyfire: You ken how to reach me if you change your mind, lass..

Rosek: ::stands and lays a hand on his cheek:: Thank you for trying. At least I know when things hit the fan, I’ll have someone to help put me back together. ::kisses his cheek::

Skyfire: Any time.

:: He and the beagle took their leave, and he headed back to his quarters with his hands in his pockets. He had no idea what was going through her mind, and only knew that he was powerless to help if she didn’t want him to. He tried, and that was the important part. ::
