OOC: Takes place after the post "Breakfast"

((Hallway, Hotel Zephyr))

::When he found her, she was sitting at the end of the hall in a heap with her duffel beside her, clutching her communicator like a lifeline. She looked up as he approached and he sucked in a sharp breath. She was a wreck, tear trails running down her cheeks, her hair mussed. He immediately dropped down beside her and enveloped her in a tight hug. His insides twisted at the sob that tore from her throat. Overwhelming pain battered his mental walls. He sighed and closed his eyes, lowering his walls. He stifled a cry as he absorbed her pain. Thank God for his Betazoid heritage. He could take her burden. Gladly, he did. No one deserved to feel this much agony. When at last her sobbing subsided, he ran his fingers through her hair and pressed a kiss to her temple.::

Thoran: ::whispers:: I’m here. It’s going to be okay. You’re not alone.

Rosek: ::chokes:: Just a week ago, he was asking me to marry him. What did I do wrong?

Thoran: ::tenses:: You didn’t do anything wrong. He was an ass to do this to you. ::cups her face in his hands and stares into her eyes:: He doesn’t deserve you. If he didn’t realize how lucky he was, it’s his loss.

Rosek: ::nods and grasps his hands:: Get me out of here.

((Black Sand Beach, Sausalito, California--Later))

::It was late afternoon by the time they arrived at the secluded spot. They’d elected to take the hike instead of a modern transport after dropping her luggage off at a nearby hotel. “It’ll be good for you,” Anjar had said. She smiled and closed her eyes as the cool wind and the scent of the ocean assaulted her senses. It indeed had been. Just the escape she needed from the modern world.::

Thoran: They closed this beach to the public decades ago. So we’ll have complete privacy.

Rosek: ::murmurs:: It’s lovely. ::turns to him:: I’m sorry to have dragged you away from your daughter again. I just…

Thoran: ::shakes his head:: It’s fine. You needed someone.

::She wrapped the gray open-front knit cardigan tighter around her. Looking down at the sand, she had a sudden urge to feel it beneath her feet. She removed her shoes, her now-brown hair blowing in the wind. Anjar walked beside her, a hand at the small of her back.::

Thoran: Come on. There’s a shaded spot just ahead where we can sit and enjoy the view.

::When they reached it, Anjar sat first, his back leaned against the rock wall for support, and spread his legs, motioning to her to sit between them. She hesitated only a moment before doing so, leaning back against his chest as his arms wrapped around her.::

Rosek: ::sighs:: Mmm. You’re warm.

Thoran: ::chuckles:: Happy to be of service.

::Her eyes felt heavy. She hadn’t slept very well last night. Even with the sedatives, nightmares still filled her sleeping hours.::

Thoran: ::murmurs:: Relax. I’ve got you and we’ve got nothing but time.

::Against her will, her eyes shut completely and she found herself drifting off.::

((Black Sands Beach, Sausalito--Later))

::When she opened her eyes again, the sun was setting on the horizon.::

Rosek: ::yawns and stretches:: Mmm. How long have I been asleep?

Thoran: ::shrugs:: A couple of hours.

Rosek: ::smiles wanly:: Thanks. I guess I really needed that. I’ve been pretty run down and the whole mess with Jansen wasn’t helping.

Thoran: I’m glad you’re feeling better.

::Lael leaned into his hand on her cheek and closed her eyes. She could feel the emotion vibrating off of him and it made her heart beat faster. When she opened her eyes, he was millimeters away, so close that she could feel his warm breath on her lips.::

Rosek: ::murmurs:: Anjar…

::Before she could finish, his lips brushed against hers. He pulled away first, blushing profusely.::

Thoran: I’m sorry.

Rosek: ::shakes her head:: It’s okay. We’ve both been rejected by the people we care about most. It’s only natural that you’d want that intimate connection with someone.

Thoran: ::smiles sadly:: Too soon, huh?

Rosek: ::nods:: I still…

Thoran: ::murmurs:: I understand. But...can we just stay here for awhile? It’s so peaceful...and the company is nice.

Rosek: ::laughs:: Just nice?

Thoran: ::smirks:: Are you fishing, Ms. Rosek?

Rosek: ::pokes her tongue out at him:: Smart ass.

Thoran: ::chuckles:: Brat.

::Without another word, she turned in his arms and leaned back against his chest to watch the setting sun.::
