((Desai-Orrey's Quarters, USS Triumphant (alt)))

::It had taken Lael awhile to track down her counterpart aboard the Triumphant. The different last name had certainly thrown her for a loop. The only reason that she'd looked deeper into the profile was the hyphenated "Orrey"--Jansen's last name. It had been a long shot, of course. Just because she and Jansen were together in her universe it didn't mean that they were together in this alternate universe. But she'd been proven right.::

Rosek: o0Only more proof that were meant for each other.0o ::to Desai:: I'll admit--while I contacted you for your help, I was also curious about our differences.

::Lae nodded, studying her counterpart as she patted Jax's back to encourage a strong burp or two. She wasn't disappointed.::

Jax: Urp. ::coos:: Gah.

Desai-Orrey: ::pauses:: I was in Engineering following up on some repairs when I heard. I was curious about you, too. ::smiles:: You're Starfleet, right?

Rosek: ::nods:: And clearly you're not.

Desai-Orrey: ::shakes her head:: Civilian consultant. Although I find myself filling in for the shipboard teacher more often than not...at least since I found out I was pregnant with Jax. ::pauses:: What about you? Do you have any children?

Rosek: ::blushes:: My Jansen and I haven't gotten that far yet. We met several months ago, but have only been dating for a couple months. ::pauses:: I do have an ex-husband. We were talking about kids before we had to divorce.

Desai-Orrey: Oh. I'm sorry to hear about your separation. If it's not too personal, might I ask why you split up?

Rosek: ::shakes her head:: Not at all. ::pauses:: It was complicated. His brother had passed and he was next in line to take his brother's seat or it would be passed to another family. It was more a matter of duty than anything. ::sighs:: And I wasn't ready to give up my career with Starfleet. So we decided it was best that we part ways. ::smiles wanly:: I still miss him. He was a wonderful husband and a great friend. ::shakes her head:: But I have Jansen now and I've never been happier.

::Lael laughed as Jax stared at her, wide eyed and obviously slightly confused before a gassy smile crossed his face and he extended his arms, reaching for her.::

Jax: Gah...gah.

::Lae laughed.::

Desai-Orrey: I think he likes you. ::pauses:: Do you want to hold him?

::Lael froze, her gaze flickering to the baby, her expression betraying her nervousness.::

Rosek: O--okay.

::Lael formed a cradle with her arms as her counterpart laid the babe in it.::

Desai-Orrey: Just support his head with the crook of one arm and his bottom with the crook of the other. ::smiles:: See? Not as nerve racking as it looks.

::Lael studied the infant, who reached out to encircle her pinky with a tiny fist, then bringing it to his mouth to suck on. She couldn't help but smile down at the precious boy. To think that she and Jansen (even if it was an alternate universe version of themselves) had created this beautiful little miracle--::

Rosek: ::murmurs:: He's beautiful.

Desai-Orrey: ::grins:: He's a spitting image of his daddy.

Rosek: ::smirks:: Except the ears. ::brushes a fingertip over one slightly pointed ear::

Desai-Orrey: ::nods:: Except the ears.

Rosek: ::looks up at her counterpart:: Where's Mom? I'll bet she's over the moon about having a grandchild. I know the Mom in my universe has been having a fit since I told her I was bi. Until I met Jansen, she was convinced I wouldn't be giving her biological grandchildren.

Desai-Orrey: ::sombers and her gaze drops to her hands:: Kellan and I never knew her. She died in childbirth. We've spent our entire lives on Luraul with Dad.

Rosek: ::frowns:: Oh. I'm sorry. ::smiles wanly:: Kell and I never knew our Dad. He married someone else and Mom moved back to Earth before we were even born.

Desai-Orrey: ::pauses:: Do you want to join my family later for dinner? Dad and my half-siblings are actually visiting right now...what with Jax and all.

Rosek: ::pauses:: You know what? I'd like that. I'll see if I can get a bit of reprieve from my superior officer. ::pauses:: Might be more likely if I use the excuse of getting more information regarding your ship's scans of the nebula.

Desai-Orrey: ::nods:: Sounds good. I've got a couple friends in Engineering we could meet with to throw around ideas about your ship getting back to its reality.

Rosek: ::nods:: The more the merrier. We have a new Engineering ensign, Anjar Thoran, who is pretty brilliant when it comes to this kind of thing.

Desai-Orrey: Perfect. Contact me when you've talked to your superior and we'll set something up.

::Lael handed a sleeping Jax back to his mother and quietly strode from the room, waving to her counterpart, who smiled and waved back.::
