OOC: Takes place before “Father-Daughter Chat” OOC2: Takes place after Jansen’s chat with Sinnelis.

((Rosek’s Quarters, USS Gorkon))

Lael sighed as she slid onto the couch, a glass of champagne in her hand to end the evening, then patted the cushion beside her.::

Rosek: So...what did you do when you were on Earth?

Orrey: Oh bit of personal exploring cherie. ::He settled into the couch with his glass of scotch in his hand.:: Found family I never knew about.

Rosek: ::grins:: Oh? Tell me about them.

Orrey: Mother’s family in Louisiana. Spent a good deal of time there. Even gave up my apartment in the Starfleet Complex and moved out there.

Rosek: ::nods:: I’m glad you were able to get to know them a bit. I know before you always seemed a little sad...not having had the chance to really know her. Was her family able to tell you anything about her?

Orrey: Oh very much. Big family too. ::He grinned a little.::

Rosek: ::grasps his hand in hers:: That’s wonderful, Jansen. Really. ::pauses:: Did you learn anything about your dad’s family? Elina said that when she ran into you in a pub in Scotland, you were looking into it.

Orrey: Oh? You talked to her have you?

Rosek: ::blushes:: Yeah. We’ve been talking at least a couple times a week since… ::blush intensifies and murmurs:: Never mind. ::clears her throat:: So? Anything interesting from your dad’s side?

Orrey: ::Jansen smirked and super his scotch, he would come back to that.:: That was a little more tricky. A pair of cousins that I had to argue at first with to prove I was who I said I was.

Rosek: ::smiles:: Oh? How’d you do that?

Orrey: Had the village doctor show up and test us. When the fact we were related wasn't enough I found an artifact of his that had some blood on it from his swashbuckling days that was a good solid match.

Rosek: ::arches an eyebrow:: Swashbuckling days?

Orrey: Well had to get it from somewhere didn't I? ::He grins some and sips his drink.::

Rosek: ::laughs:: Oh, this I have to see. ::smirks and sips her champagne:: Anything else interesting happen?

Orrey: Between all of that, Mary Ann, Rebecca, and working through my courses I had left, it was a whirlwind.

Rosek: ::sips her champagne:: Well, it definitely sounds like an adventure. ::pauses:: Speaking of courses, it’s looking like I’ll be able to submit my dissertation by next August. ::grins:: I’ll be Dr. Rosek after that.

Orrey: About time! There for a little mine were looking hungry. Get some competition up on the wall and let them Duke it out.

Rosek: ::smiles and nods, her gaze dropping to her glass:: It’ll be nice to have it done. With everything that’s been going on, I could use one less thing on my plate. ::pauses:: You remember me telling you about what happened with Abigail? My friend?

Orrey: Right?

Rosek: ::smiles sheepishly:: Well, she has a daughter. Abigail’s mother is the designated guardian, but her mother is very ill and isn’t able to take care of her. ::pauses:: I was contacted by Abigail’s lawyer yesterday and she named me as a guardian in case her mother wasn’t able to fulfill her obligation.

Orrey: That's interesting. So you will end up with a little one?

Rosek: ::pauses:: I’m considering saying yes...especially after… ::sombers:: I feel like I owe it to her. ::sighs:: But I’m not sure I’m ready to be a single parent.

Orrey: Ah, I think you could do pretty good at it.

Rosek: ::blushes:: That was different. I was only a temporary caregiver. This is a lifetime commitment...and taking care of a baby is quite a bit different than taking care of a five year old girl who wants her mommy back.

Orrey: Maybe, but it is a good opportunity for something you want in life.

Lael sombered, swallowing roughly.::

Rosek: ::rasps:: Jansen, about what happened...

Orrey: ::sips his drink.:: mm?

Rosek: ::grasps his free hand:: You know how much I wanted it to be true, right? That I wasn’t making it up? I really thought I was. ::exhales heavily:: It’s true, I was afraid to tell you at first, but when I saw how happy it made you… ::pauses:: I wanted us to have our Jax.

Orrey: I know that. Just like I realize how much we were both hurt by the mistake.

Rosek: ::blinks back tears:: So much more than that...I was devastated, Jansen. After meeting Jax, I wanted so much to carry your child.

Orrey: You weren't the only one that wanted that life. A life I kept working for….

Rosek: ::gaze drops to her lap and swallows roughly:: I know that I pushed you away. But I was so confused...so scared. Since I was 19, I was told that because of my injury, it would be extremely dangerous, if not impossible, to carry a child to term. ::gaze again meets his and chokes:: I was so jealous of her. She had what I so desperately wanted.

Orrey: Yes, jealousy is a horrible thing.

Rosek: ::nods:: Yes. I lost the most important thing in my life because of it. And as hard it’s been to come to terms with, I realize now that it wasn’t worth losing you.

Orrey: ::squeezing her hand.:: But now we are on a good path back.

Her gaze locked with his, then flickered to his lips, licking her own. It hadn’t been that long, but it felt like an eternity. She could still recall the sensation of strong, dry lips on hers, his hands on her hips. She nodded. It was difficult. But even if they never made it back to where they were, she’d be okay...they’d be okay.::

Orrey: ::Jansen pulled her into a hug.:: You can't keep working and worrying yourself to death over it. This little girl needs you. She is what is important.

Rosek: ::smiles and hugs him back:: Yes, I suppose she does. ::pauses:: Thank you...for my gift… ::motions to the box:: And for the advice.

Orrey: ::He gave her a calculating look for a moment.:: You know what I haven't done in a while?

Rosek: ::murmurs:: What’s that?

Orrey: ::grinning a little.:: Let's dance.

She paused momentarily, her gaze meeting his. A genuine warmth resided there and she was taken back to the early days of their relationship...the little upturn of his lips that would follow one of her terrible attempts to flirt with him.::

Rosek: ::breathes:: Okay. But we don’t have any music.

Orrey: ::he raised an eyebrow at her he knew her well enough to know that was a minor inconvenience at best.:: Computer….::beep:: play last selection.

A small, almost sad smile slid across her lips as the dulcet tones of Hinder’s Lips of An Angel echoed in the confines of the small room.::

Orrey: ::shaking his head he pulled her up and put his hands on her hips.:: You got lucky I know you so well.

Rosek: ::chuckles and wraps her arms around his neck:: Luck, my dear, has nothing to do with it.

Orrey: Stop thinking and have fun.

Rosek: ::murmurs:: I never have been able to think straight when it comes to you.
