OOC: Takes place after the time jump.

((Rosek's Quarters, USS Gorkon))

::With her counterpart moved securely into her own quarters, Lael felt a sense of loneliness after shift. Everyone had been so busy, especially Jansen, giving them very little time together. She smiled as she thought back to last Christmas, that time seeming almost a lifetime away now. It had been the night of their first kiss and their first real night as a couple. It was hard to imagine a time when they hadn't been together, really. She'd been intrigued by him from their first meeting, that curiosity quickly blooming into an intense crush that had then transitioned quite easily into love. Normally, she wasn't the type to dive head first into a long-term romance. But she'd been ready from the beginning to experience that with him.::

((Flashback - Observation Lounge, USS Gorkon))

::Thankfully, it was somewhat late and it meant that nearly everyone was in bed, giving them the place to themselves. Lael smiled as she indulged in another Tequila Sunrise, sipping it gingerly as she enjoyed the view. For some reason, the stars looked even more beautiful tonight.::

ORREY: I don’t think I have ever been more at home then when I am out here in the middle of no where. ::Jansen stood from his seat at the bar beside her moved toward the window.::

ROSEK: ::smiles:: I know what you mean. Sometimes it’s nice to get away from everything and just enjoy the simple things.

ORREY: ::He looked over his shoulder.:: Or the company.

ROSEK: ::smiles and takes another sip:: ::nods:: Or the company. ::sighs::

ORREY: ::Jansen turned and advanced on her sigh.:: I have to say I think you are my favorite company.

ROSEK: ::smirks:: Really?

ORREY:::There is a smirk on his face.:: Would I have given you such a thoughtful gift otherwise?

::Lael smiled and crossed the room, sliding onto the lounge chair beside the window. It was just wide enough for Jansen to join her.::

ORREY: ::Jansen moved over and settled easily into the chair beside her putting his arm around her by putting it along the back of the chair.:: Well it is true isn’t it?

ROSEK: ::murmurs:: Fishing always has been one of your favorite pastimes. ::smiles::

ORREY: It is nice to relax that way just waiting for the information to come in.

ROSEK: ::laughs:: Yes, Jansen, it was a very thoughtful gift.

ORREY: Good then I know what to get you for your birthday. ::He leaned over and softly captured her lips again.::

ROSEK: ::grins:: That’s a while away yet. How will I survive until then?

ORREY: I can keep giving you little samples before the big surprise.

ROSEK: Mmm. You spoil me.

ORREY: ::Jansen hugged her close to his side and turned them in the chair toward the window more.:: Not until I deliver all of those to your feet.

((End Flashback))

::His easy charm and typically positive nature drew her in like a moth to a flame. He was strong and steady with long-term career goals and a passion for what he did. His love of Starfleet matched and sometimes outstripped hers. She liked that. Janel had been so insecure and unsure of himself. As much as she'd loved him for the man he was, she just couldn't deal with that. They still talked on occasion--or at least they had until the fissure--but they weren't as close as they had once been. Discussions had been of a more mundane, casual nature.::

::She sighed. Despite the fact that they were both so busy, they'd managed to find moments together--moments that she cherished almost more than their long evenings together. For example, when he'd cornered her in the hallway that morning.::

((Flashback - Corridor, USS Gorkon))

::Jansen turned the corner and headed up the corridor smiling as saw someone very special coming from the opposite direction. He spotted a little rest alcove and he slipped inside. Until she came near and then drew her inside.::

::Lael gasped in surprise, suppressing a giggle when she realized who her captor was.::

ORREY: Hi there.

ROSEK: ::laughs:: Jansen! You nearly gave me a heart attack!

ORREY: That is okay I am a doctor. So what brings you down this way?

ROSEK: ::grins:: Lunch. I had to cover a gamma plus my shift. The Captain was generous enough to ask my replacement to come in early.

ORREY: A small blessing. Are we still on for spaghetti in your quarters tonight?

ROSEK: ::nods:: I was planning to take a short nap after lunch, but I should be okay for tonight.

ORREY: If only I could join you for that nap. ::He sighs airly.:: Alas I have to work for a bit longer.

ROSEK: ::kisses his nose:: That’s all right. We agreed to take it slow anyway. Remember?

ORREY: Oh I know. Besides I thought now would be a good time for your reminder of your gift to come. ::Jansen leaned down and kissed her deeply but gently.::

ROSEK: Mmm. You’re right. Perfect timing.

ORREY: It is sad but I have to be on my way I have a meeting to get to now.

ROSEK: ::brushes her lips against his:: Damn. Well, I guess I’ll just have to live without you until dinner.

ORREY: I can’t wait. :: He smiled and took her hand giving her a squeeze before he left the alcove with a smile looking back at her.::

((End Flashback))

::Despite being trapped in an alternate universe, she knew things could be a great deal worse. They were lucky considering the circumstances. They'd managed to evade Dominion ships and were well on their way to being at nearly maximum efficiency. There were still parts that the Captain hadn't been able to barter for and system repairs that just couldn't be completed anywhere but Jupiter Station or Earth's orbital facilities, but they were making due just fine. The only downside was that, though the teams were working hard, no one had found a way to reopen the fissures and return to their own universe. It would no doubt take a great deal of time and, until then, they'd just have to remain off-grid.::
