Informing The Few

((Deck 6, Diplomatic Facilities, USS Excalibur))

::The diplomatic aide looked up from his computer, startled. Someone had just called at his door, and for a moment there, he couldn't remember whether he was on SB188 or the Excalibur. He shouldn't have decorated his office the exact same way, it was too confusing.::

Dakarai: Entrez!

::Glutik stormed into his office and sat on a chair right away, looking very much like he owned this place. Dakarai's heart sank. He had forgotten he had actually summoned the Tellarite.::

Glutik: ::With a grin.:: I like your use of foreign words, Dakarai. They make everything sound mysterious. So, why did you want to see me?

Dakarai: oO Quel enfoiré ce Glutik! Oo ::Calling a specific file on his screen.:: I've read the article you wrote on Commodore t'Llwei.

Glutik: ::Beaming.:: Beautiful, is it not? Brek briefed me on the Romulans and how we should write positive stuff about them.

Dakarai: So, logically, you decided to focus on her love life... Reassure me, you haven't met her, have you?

Glutik: Of course not! I'm not mad and I value my life immensely. If you wonder about all the details I put in my article, I elaborated. With affairs of the heart, it's not difficult to make out the actions of a person, once you know what events took place.

Dakarai: You missed your vocation, Glutik. You should write romances.

Glutik: ::Looking hopeful.:: You think so?

Dakarai: No. I think you should write about the Commodore's military career, and stick to the facts this time.

Glutik: You must be joking! Intel will already have that sort of information! At least with emotions you get the real stuff that governs us all. We are on Agurtha because a Romulan Commodore lost someone she loved on that planet. Without this, we would be on Lambda Hydrae, without a clue as to where the plague first developed.

Dakarai: That may be so. But, sadly for you, Glutik, you are a diplomatic press attaché. Your role is to inform the few, not to entertain the masses.

Glutik: Bonkers!

Dakarai: If you don't like it, then...

Glutik: ::Interrupting him.:: I have already played tennis today, and I don't like it much!

Dakarai: ::With a dismissive gesture.:: You're wasting my time. If you can't do things properly, don't do them!

::Glutik huffed and crossed his arms on his chest.::

Glutik: We both know this isn't going to happen. What about an article on Brek's career? I'm sure I can make it neutral enough, you know, without saying a word on the latinum he and his grandmother are making hand over fist thanks to the Federation.

::Dakarai blinked in an attempt to stay calm. Ferengi bashing was a cardinal sin on this deck. Once he was sure that he wasn't going to lose his temper, he got up, forced himself to look carefree, and showed Glutik towards the doors.::

Dakarai: I have a much better idea: write about yourself. Tell us why you joined the diplomatic corps. Go for a memoir. Better still: an autobiography in several volumes. oO Anything as long as it takes time to compile. Oo

Glutik: ::Stopping at the doors.:: You sure about that? I'm concerned it might be a bit egocentric? Though obviously I've many things to tell. I may not have a tremendous lot to show for it, but I've travelled almost everywhere and survived each and every ordeal!

Dakarai: Excellent! As a great Terran said: It's a man's mind, not his coffers, which confers richness. Go for it!

::With a big smile plastered on his face, Dakarai pushed the Tellarite into the corridor.::

Glutik: I'll send you my drafts!

Dakarai: oO And I will delete them on reception. Oo

::Once alone in his office, Dakarai leaned against the doors and sighed.::

Dakarai: oO Next time, I'm going to hit him, I can feel it! Oo
