((Starbase 118 - Promenade))

::Adam had just finished eating his early lunch, and planned to meet his
Engineering Chief. Yet, on the way, he brushed passed someone that he
thought he recognized. Wait - he did. How could he miss the Gorn? It was
Captain Nugra. He used to command the Victory before it was taken in for
refit. Adam excitedly walked over to him and tapped the Gorn on the
shoulder, careful not to make any gestures that he might find offending::

::Nugra flipped through the screen on his PADD trying to sort out not only
what he was going to be doing at the awards banquet when the time came, but
also finish up on the last bits of paperwork that never seemed to leave him
alone. He was glad that the majority of it would be gone once command had
been rescinded, but that did not alleviate him of the responsibility now.
Worse, he did not have his office to hide in to do the work. ::

::Captain Reynolds had emailed him letting him know that she was going to
set up the holodeck program for the awards banquet and that, at least, was
one thing off his list. ::

Haase: Good Afternoon, Captain Nugra. ::Adam stood in a respectful posture::

::The Gorn started, looking up to see the young Lieutenant JG in front of
him.

Nugra: Good Afternoon, Lieutenant…..?

Haase: Haase, Lieutenant, Junior Grade Adam Haase.

Nugra: Haase. Nice to meet you.

Haase: It’s very nice to meet you too, Sir. I’m so glad that I’ve had this
opportunity. I read about some of the work you did on the DDP schematics
and arithmetic. Very nicely done.

Nugra: ::Smiling:: Oh, yes. Ensign Janeway. He was interested on some specs
based on the Victory’s setup if memory serves. I have not seen much more
about his files, I hope he is doing okay.

Haase: Well, when I was assigned aboard the Atlantis, I was his
replacement. Lt. Gardener always seemed jittery around the mention of his
name, so I assume that he either retired or was removed from service. Or,
there is still the possibility of transfer among the fleet - but I don’t
think that’s likely. I’ve heard stories - but now isn’t the time for that,
sir.

Nugra: That’s quite alright. ::motioning:: I’m heading towards docking port
223-B1, USS Gorkon. I am making the assumption that you might be heading
that way as I just found your name on my PADD as a transfer?

Haase: That would be correct, sir. With the proposed decommissioning of the
Atlantis, all crew have been reassigned.

::The Gorn began to walk, clicking his PADD off and placing it into one of
his pockets. ::

Nugra: I just finished speaking with your captain. I think you’ll be in
good hands. What position did you get assigned to aboard the Gorkon?

Haase: I have been assigned to the Engineering department. The Chief
Engineer is a lieutenant, so there’s probably no chance of me slipping in
ahead of him. ::Adam smiled:: Always looking out for my career, don’t you
know.

Nugra: ::laughing:: Well, from my experience, you’ll move up as your prove
yourself. Do not be surprised. You just need to work hard.

Haase: Of course, sir. Hard work eventually pays off, well, at least that’s
what everyone has been telling me. ::Adam remembered his mother’s words
when he left for the Atlantis almost 7 months ago. “Adam - you are destined
for great things. But remember, if anything, the two most important things
that I have taught you - work hard, and never get into a bar brawl with a
Klingon.” Adam laughed inwardly.:: May I inquire about your presence aboard
the Gorkon? Anything special happening, or just ‘releasing’ your crew to
Captain Reynolds?

Nugra: Releasing the crew, presenting service ribbons for their work in the
tempest sector, a farewell. That sort of thing. My new assignment should be
docking sometime next week so I won’t have to travel far.

Haase: ::curiously:: And what would your next assignment be, if I might
ask? ::Adam rummaged through a his bag to find a PADD.::

Nugra: USS Columbia. Been assigned as their Chief of Intelligence. Looking
forward to it.

Haase: Well I’m sorry to see such an amazing captain lose the center chair.
But I’m certain that you will do well, wherever you are assigned. Do you
think that you could answer a question for me? ::Adam extended the PADD he
had pulled out from his bag:: Approximately how much faster is QSSD than
standard warp-driven systems?

::Nugra thought for a few seconds trying to remember what they had done
once they got moving. There was a few issues at the start of the QSSD jump,
but the ship had evened out. ::

Nugra: Our journey to the tempest sector from starbase 118 usually took
about 3 weeks, but we were able to cover it in about four days, counting
cool down periods.

Haase: That’s spectacular. ::Adam recorded the information on the PADD::
I’m just so excited to be posted to the Gorkon. I’ve always wanted to serve
aboard a Sovereign class, especially after Captain Picard was placed on
one. Ooh, I can’t wait to get my hands on those engines!

::Adam giggled with excitement. His first posting on a vessel this size. If
serving aboard this ship didn’t prove his competence, he didn’t know what
would.::

Nugra: I, myself, have never been on a Sovereign. The Gorkon will be my
first. I hear she has had the latest upgrades too since the class was
created. If you want a nice ship, I would highly recommend you take a look
at a Gorn Krr’Maka Class dreadnaught...the Federation designation is Iguana
Class Dreadnaught. Beautiful vessel.

Haase: ::attempting to remember:: I’m sure that I learned about that in the
Academy…::struggling for a few more minutes::...sorry, Captain. I’ll have
to look that one up. I never had to work on one of those vessels, so the
schematics have obviously been lost up in this pink mush. ::Adam gestured
and looked up to his head::

Nugra: ::chuckling:: It’s quite alright. Gorn ship recognition isn’t normal
training. I do believe the holodeck does have a few of our designs, but I
have not used it in awhile.

Haase: But I took a Non-Federation Ships course at the academy - PILOT230
if my memory serves me correctly. I’ll have to put my nose back in that
textbook. ::Smiles::

::Adam and Captain Nugra continued to walk until they reached the ship
moorings. Adam, still admiring the captain he walked with, remained silent
for the rest of the journey. His thoughts we occupied. Yes, quite occupied
indeed.::

::As the reached the docking port, Nugra turned to his new comrade. ::

Nugra: Well, I think this is where we will part ways until later. I’ve got
to finish up a few things and check on my crew before the banquet. Will I
see you there?

Haase: Oh, yes. I can’t wait to see who gets promoted - even if I haven’t
known them for very long. ::Adam sighed. He missed the Atlantis
already...but he knew that he must get used to these sort of things, for he
was a Starfleet officer, and that’s just what Starfleet officers do. He
hoped that Captain Nugra didn’t sense his discontent.:: It was very nice
meeting you, Captain.

Nugra: Until then. Fight for Duty and Honor, Lieutenant.

Haase: I shall do my best, sir.

::And with that, both officers parted in different ways. Adam headed
towards engineering - and Captain Nugra to, well, wherever he was going.::
