(( USS Victory - Ayiana’s Quarters - 0745 hours ))

:: It was Ayiana’s first official day as Chief Science Officer. She had spent the day after the awards banquet studying the science department roster, getting to know at least the basics of who she would be working with; working over.  ::

:: She had also spent the time after the banquet worrying herself into a stupor. She was fresh out of the academy, and had little command experience. Yet the captain saw fit to give her a promotion and make her department chief. He must see something in her she didn’t.  ::

:: Ayiana stepped up to the mirror in her bathroom once more, making sure she looked professional. With a shaky left hand, she managed to attach her new black JG pip to her collar. She never had the nerve to do it before now. It had been sitting on her nightstand, the thought of it sometimes keeping her awake. That small, black dot represented trust in her the captain saw fit to bestow. It also represented greater responsibility to the crew and the ship.  ::

:: As she was heading out, Commander Nugra piped in over the comms. ::

Nugra: =/\= Nugra to Victory Staff. There will be a mission briefing at 0900 in the Main Conference Room on Deck 1. =/\=

(( Several minutes later - Outside Science Lab 1 ))

:: Ayiana took a deep breath, pulled tight her uniform (( Picard maneuver! )), and, with a PADD in hand, approached the doors. With a soft hiss, Ayiana took in her first sights of her new command.  ::

Shedet: :: Saluting :: Shedet reporting as ordered, Ma'am!

:: Ayiana was taken aback at the young Orion woman’s enthusiasm and salute.  ::

Sevo: oO Oh man, is everyone going to salute me now? Though I do like the sound of “ma’am”! Oo Um...at ease - :: looking at her pips :: - Lieutenant.

:: Ayiana had seen Lt. Kaji the day before, trying to get some advice on command. Time to put it to work. ::

Sevo:  :: Speaking loud enough for everyone to hear :: Can I have your attention for a few minutes, please?

:: There were several people here. Shedet had already introduced herself. The rest, Ayiana had to remember from studying her roster. Near Shedet was a human male crewman, Pradesh Khan. He was next to a worktable with some strange-looking goo. The rest of the staff gradually came over to where Ayiana was standing. Some stood formally, others stood more casually, even apathetic.  ::

Sevo:  :: Clearing her throat  :: Thank you. I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Ayiana Sevo. Obviously I am a Trill; Joined a year ago. In addition to my previous host’s knowledge of Chemistry, I also have advanced degrees in Astrophysics, Quantum Mechanics, and Subspace Mechanics.

:: Ayiana waited a moment to see if anyone responded to her list of credentials. ::

Sevo: I understand many of you were fond of our previous Chief - Lieutenant Commander Rossh. I only worked with him a short time, but I found him knowledgeable and amicable. I know I cannot replace him; but I will do my best to succeed him.

Sevo: Now, I can understand if a few of you are hesitant to take orders from such a young officer. I also know a few people are even a higher rank than myself. As for the former, if it makes you feel any better, you can think of me as being over two-hundred years old. Just think of the life experience one of you would have in that amount of time.

Sevo: Regarding the latter, there is not much I can do about that. The captain saw fit to place me in charge of this department. That means in here and any other situation concerning science, I am your superior. If you feel you cannot take orders from a jaygee, you are free to request a transfer.

oO Yea, THAT sounded authoritative! I guess talking to Lt. Kaji is paying off! Oo

:: Ayiana noticed a couple of the crewmen shifting uncomfortably at that. One of them was Pradesh. She remembered his psychological profile had mentioned him as a little cynical. She made a mental note to keep an eye on him.  ::

Sevo: I have reviewed the department roster and ongoing projects - :: she twiddled her PADD with a few fingers :: - but I would like to hear from each of you personally. As such, over the next few days, I would like to observe and talk with each of you to get to know you and your work better.

Sevo: Now, before you get back to work, does anyone have any questions?
