((The Brew Continuum, 1731 hrs, USS Veritas))
::He arrived at the new coffee shop a minute late and saw Lael approaching him in the corridor. He looked inside and saw there were a number of the crew already inside. Chythar was being more sociable than usual.::
Galven: Well, in my social sciences class--
Rosek: ::rolls her eyes:: Shut it off, Mr. Galven.
Galven: ::adjusts his uniform:: I guess I can put away the scientist for one night. ::chuckles::
::They walked inside just as Kelrod approached the doctor.::
Kelrod: Hi there, just wanted to wish you the best on the Montreal. I don’t envy you, you’ll have a lot of work to do there.
Skyfire: Another day, another sickbay. Very familiar territory to me, I assure you.
Galven: Well, I was checking out the layout of the ship and there’s a few more science labs. Never can go wrong with more inquisitive knowledge.
Rosek: ::grimaces:: Though I wish Engineering wasn’t crammed onto the same deck as the bridge among other things. Not nearly the size an engine room should be. ::shudders:: Makes me claustrophobic just thinking about it.
Kelrod: Well, you know me, I hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I’ll be ready if you ever need me, I just hope that you don’t.
Rosek: ::smiles wanly:: As much as I’ve enjoyed working with you, Commander, I hope we don’t either.
Galven: ::chuckles:: Judging from the last mission, I sure hope I don’t need rescuing again.
Skyfire: From what I understand, the Montreal doesn’t have the same amount of space for a full SAR compliment. But we will definitely keep the Veritas in mind for such operations.
Galven: I’m just glad the Montreal is still in the same region as the Veritas.
Skyfire: A few others I would like to say farewell to. If you’ll excuse me.
:: He nodded at the doctor and turned to Geoffrey.::
Galven: Even though we were only colleagues for a short while, I still consider you a good friend of mine, Geoff.
::Teller puts down his washcloth and steps around the counter to clasp his first roommates hand in a vigorous handshake.::
Teller: Same here, Doc, but I guess that’s life in the fleet. Send me a note the next time your planning a prank, I may have some ::smirk:: tweaks.
Galven: ::smirks:: Email me when you come up with something as brilliant as this place is.
Teller: Well since I got this place pretty much together, I figure I’ll be in the market for a new crazy project soon. Just didn’t mean this one for a goodbye party, but glad it’s a party regardless.
Galven: ::shakes his head:: This isn’t goodbye, Geoff. We’ll see each other again.
Teller: Let’s hope so buddy. Stay safe out there and try not to blow anything up, alright?
::The Denobulan gave the Human and big hearty hug and tapped his back. When they departed, German saw that the Captain wasn’t talking to the doctor anymore. He looked at Geoffrey and gave the “I’ll be over there” look.::
::He walked over to Rahman and reached out his hand for her to shake his.::
Galven: I just want to say that it’s been an honor, ma’am.
::She shook his hand and gestured for him to follow her to the coffee shop’s lone window. Outside, the Montreal could be seen ahead of Veritas while both ships remained in orbit of Havley’s Hope.::
Rahman: It’s going to be a bit different on that ship. You’ll be taking the lead in the science department as opposed to just being one of several.
::She turned to look back at him.::
Rahman: But you’re ready for it.
::He seemed appreciative of the words as a moment lingered between them. He then surprised her with an unexpected gesture.::
Galven: I actually have something for you. A gift.
::She looked on curiously as he reached in and pulled out a swinging desk toy, a Newton's cradle.::
Galven: ::smiles:: It’s for your ready room. Maybe it’ll hypnotize any unruly officers. ::winks::
Rahman: Thank you, lieutenant. I think it will remind me that I only get back from the crew what I put in myself.
::Another moment lingered between them.::
Rahman: Good advice now for you as you begin the next chapter of your Starfleet career.
Galven: ::nods:: As-salamu alaykum, Captain.
::She smiled at his unexpected observance of her cultural heritage that he’d learned from their meeting earlier in the chapel.::
Rahman: Wa alaykum al-salaam, Lieutenant. And pleasant journeys.
