Background
Ranella was born on Bajor, at Ilvian Medical Complex in the Northeast Province. Her family resided just outside the city of Ilvia, and her parents and grandparents all worked at the Medical Complex as either physicians or counsellors.
Ranella’s Grandparents met on Valos III during the Occupation. Her Grandfather, Romush Eltruth, had travelled there as a refugee where he met Nillo Udistru, a Betazed woman working as a relief agent in the camp. Before the occupation had even ended, the couple moved back to Bajor to help rebuild and restore the people.
Ranella was named after her grandmother and both of her parents. She shortened her surname to Ro when she decided to join the Starfleet.
Her early professional years were spent studying medicine at the Medical Complex, where her family wanted her to practice alongside them. Having inherited her black eyes, and a healthy empathic ability from her grandmother, they felt that she could be a true asset there. But Ranella had heard so many stories of Starfleet, space, and the wonders of so many different people that she determined to join. She felt that this type of exposure would only improve her abilities to help her people. Against her family's wishes, she left Bajor and went to San Francisco where she studied medicine and finally joined Starfleet.
