  • 2385: Leaving school, Paul joined the Starfleet Marine Corps Officer course and started training.
  • 2390: During a training exercise Paul fell from a cliff face leaving him with a shattered pelvis and a broken left hip. During his recovery, he was given the choice of either a medical discharge or to retake the entire course, by a vindictive Gunnery Sgt. Knowing that even the least competent student on the course would outrank him in 5 years Paul took a discharge. After leaving Paul spent 6 months drinking himself into a stupor. Ralph found him drunk as a lord on night lying against the pigsty. Picking him up he threw hi into the sty with the words. "If your gonna live like an animal, you can sleep with um".
