Orson is an intriguing character; for some, something about him makes their blood boil in an uncomfortable way; for others, he's a unique enigma with a quick joke. He is intelligent and charismatic, though not necessarily at the same time. He can emotionally detach to protect himself. He tries to find people who can challenge him, intellectually and physically, if desired. His character could be the embodiment of adventure and recklessness, a drug of choice; senseless and destructive, sometimes intimidating when not kept in check. Talking to him during one of his high moods, one can get the sense that he wasn't quite born but created from somewhere dark and cold, and forced to survive, relying only on his wit and intellect. His external warrior hides a frightened child inside. He has no control over his greatness; he was born this way, and don't forget it.

Born on a starship (the ''USS Adelaide'', Galaxy-Class), the oldest sibling of three and the first born to Starfleet Officers. He lived the majority of his childhood moving from ship to ship with his parents, with little stability as the prospect of war took hold of the Federation. A contingent of Starfleet Officers were sent to quell the Marquis on Volan III to prevent further hostilities along the DMZ, and his parents settled there in 2369, at the brink of the Dominion War, in time for his sister to be born on the colony. For the next four years, they spent most of their time on the colony with Federation members, sometimes hiding from Cardassian infiltration, sometimes repelling Marquis attempts to control the mining systems. While too young to have participated actively, Orson remembers what life was like during that time and resents his parents for placing him and his young sister in that predicament.

Personality/Manner

Relationships

Bear does not have a good relationship with his family. Resenting his parents for raising him and his sister in a warzone due to Starfleet commitments, he shipped out for the Academy as soon as he could, and if he hadn't, he would have found another reason to leave. He considers his sister, Jocelyn Marshall, to be the closest of his family, even if their relationship is strained to the brink of breaking.

Wife/Partner Lena Josett
Parents Robin Marshall (Mother), Luther Marshall (Father)
Siblings Jocelyn Marshall, George Marshall
Offspring None that he's aware of.

There are not many Bear considers friends on the USS Gorkon. A product of spending a significant portion of his career on solo-missions, he finds it difficult to maintain friendships beyond an immediate connection. The same is true for romantic partners. He is straightforward with people who wish to develop something with him and doesn't expect it to last long before someone is let down.

Lena Josett A hybrid pirate working with the Orion Syndicate he met on Hai Tac Outpost in Ma no Umi, turned out to be a deep cover Starfleet Intelligence officer. Since then, she and Bear have clashed, crossed and caroused, and ended up in some dicey situations. She has a free natured spirit about her that he finds similar to his own, and knows given half the chance, Lena could just pick up and leave; a feeling he feels more often than not. Both broken, both finding their way. They recently married in a spur of the moment decision and have yet to see if this will cause issues...
Sera zh'Aella Sera was his first real connection on the USS Gorkon. Partaking in a flirtation, Bear was immediately drawn to the Andorian and made no effort in concealing it. This culminated in a brief tryst on Trill during shore leave before she left for the Klingon Defence Force.
Samira Neathler Bear finds Samira to be somewhat of a mystery, which he finds more attractive than he should. A dance on the Outer Hull of the USS Gorkon during a celebration saw them taking off for the Lower Decks party and the start of something more. However, following his interlude on the Labyrith's Scream with Valesha, thoughts of the young woman made him doubt his gut instincts. Uncomfortable with the new feelings of not being able to pick up and leave, he broke it off when he got back.
Valesha Sienelis His partner in "crime"; he kidnapped her out of the brig under direction from the Admiral and the two made an escape to an Orion Syndicate vessel undercover. While their friendship is tenuous at best — interspersed with more sarcasm than one can wilfully handle — he would take a bullet for her, or maybe shoot her himself.
Sky Blake An old friend from the days he taught the Starfleet Ranger skills. A student, a brief fling, and a friend when he didn't think he had any left, Blake managed to make his final years in the Rangers entertaining, and his arrest more so. She can be cold, blunt, abrasive, and particularly cutting, but he'd be lying if he said he'd like her any other way.
Lael Rosek The kind of first love young men try to forget about; Lael and Bear never quite made it. There was always a reason why it didn't work — the timing was off, their focus was on something else, life got in the way, and then finally, she told him she was engaged. Since then, they've maintained contact via subspace and catch up when they can.
Gnaxac The diminutive Ferengi is a burgeoning friend to the man and one person Bear enjoys spending time with.
Christopher Johns Chris has fallen foul of the shadows riding on Bear's back. While he doesn't like the man - at all - Bear feels guilty for dragging him into the machinations that even he doesn't understand fully.
Quinn Reynolds If there was a strong enough word to denote the abysmal feeling Bear gets when the hybrid Admiral is roaming, he hasn't found it yet. The woman manages to send shivers down his spine into places he's never heard of. He hates being anywhere near her and avoids her whenever possible.

Personal History

Born on a starship (the USS Adelaide, Galaxy-Class), the oldest sibling of three and the first born to Starfleet Officers.

Orson was always a contender for a career in Starfleet. He was brought up on stories of galactic heroes who triumphed over domination by the Dominion and took a lot of what he was told to heart. As soon as he could, he joined the Academy in training for Security and Tactical, and shipped out to start life among the stars. He excelled academically, a trait his sister envied, and he in turn envied her demonstrable abilities in Engineering, to think with a technical mind and a level head.

He has moved around the Federation, working in remote locations for long periods of time, and little else is known about his career. He was listed as Absent Without Leave for several months, until he appeared on Starbase 173 having been frozen in a fissure with no official record of his reassignment to the base. From there, he has been reassigned to the USS Gorkon as a 451st Platoon Ranger.
