Nikael Kalre is a Betazoid and leader of the Maquis Reborn. A veteran of the Dominion War, he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer while serving in Starfleet. After the war, he left the service and returned to his wife and family in his hometown of Ohmallera, where he helped with the rebuilding efforts on his homeworld, which had been occupied by Dominion forces.
Kalre was away when the hijacked USS Constitution-B destroyed Ohmallera in 2388. His wife and children, however, were killed during the attack along with most of the city's 1.2 million inhabitants.
