Need some inspiration for writing an article for the team? Here are some posting ideas!

Real world events

Items in this section should be written from the OOC point-of-view.

  • Baby births: We've no shortage of future members! Any time one of the crew announces that they, or their spouse has had a child, be sure to post any information you have!
    • Sample Text: "The writer for Tristan Wolf, and his wife, have just welcomed a new baby girl to planet Earth! Please congratulate them on their healthy little girl."
  • Weddings: Congratulate crew-members on their happy day.
    • Sample Text: "Please congratulate the writer for Tristan Wolf, on his wedding to a new Star Fleet bride! The couple were married on June 1st, and Tristan will be on his honeymoon for the next two weeks. Best of luck to them on this new journey!"
  • Trek News: Whenever there's a new movie coming out, or anything interesting having to do with Trek actors, this team can update the news.
  • Science News: Interesting news from the world of science can be sprinkled in to our news once or twice a month. This would include particularly good images from the Hubble Telescope, information on space shuttle launches or other space discovery news, break-throughs in Trek-like technology, etc.
  • Reviews: New Trek media (books, movies, games) come out almost every month. A review can help our members decide if it's worth paying attention to.

Feature articles

Items in this section should be written from either an OOC or IC point-of-view.

  • Side-plot summary: A short OOC overview of any person's side-plot, including the characters involved, how it started, why it's interesting, etc.
  • Star Trek and ...: An OOC op/ed regarding Star Trek and a particular issue. One example might be an overview of plots in Star Trek involve racism, or how inter-species war in Star Trek reflects our current state of the world.
  • Treknology: An IC or OOC review of how a particular piece of Star Trek technology works.

Special OOC events

Items in this section should be written from the OOC point-of-view.

  • Award recipients: recipients of awards from the yearly ceremonies should always be featured on the site.
  • Writing Challenge winners: If a member of the crew has won, or come in second on the Writing Challenge, post their name, a link to the winning entry on the forums, and the banner.
  • Top Sims Contest winners: Similarly, post the name, and a link to the winning Top Sims Contest entry.

Forums

  • Notable forum threads: Interesting threads on the forum are good to highlight, to drive more traffic there.
  • Poll of the Week: Each time a new poll is started, a link should be posted.
  • Forum Tip of the Week: Explain little-known feature of the forum to help make the forums more usable by members.

Fleet Changes

Items in this section can be written from an IC, or OOC point-of-view.

  • Ship Commissioning or Decommissioning: Whenever a CO moves ships, is promoted to Captain and starts a new vessel, or a ship is decommissioned, it should be noted.
  • EC Changes: When a member leaves the EC, or is promoted to the EC.

Task-forces

Items in this section can be written from an IC, or OOC point-of-view.

  • Starts or Closes: If a team or guild is created or closed, further information should be provided.
  • Facilitators: Whenever a facilitator of a team or guild changes.

Columns

Items in this section can be written from an IC, or OOC point-of-view.

  • Ask the...: (Doctor, Engineer, Scientist, Captain, First Officer, etc.) Anyone can write an "Ask the..." column, not just people who actively play someone in that specific field. Simply make up a character and post it as if it was part of the "Federation News Network." If you're not going to give serious advice on playing a character in one of these fields, the aim should be humor.
  • Federation Politics: Create a "pundit" persona and write about anything going-on within the Federation.
  • Amusing Classified: What kind of things would a classifieds section list in the 24th century? Create a few amusing classified ads and that'll keep people giggling all day.

Interviews & Close-ups

Items in this section can be written from an IC, or OOC point-of-view.

  • Ship Closeups: a review of one of the ships in our fleet, including the hardware and crew.
  • Species Closeups: an in-depth review of species in the ILI.
  • Command Closeups: an interview and history of one of our command members.
  • Task-force Closeups: an interview, history, and current events of a particularly active team or guild.
  • Lower Decks: Non-command officers will appreciate the attention of being in the spotlight! Pick anyone in the fleet who isn't an FO or CO, and do an interview with them (IC or OOC, or both!).

Monthly Items

Items in this section are received through other channels, and are generally posted by members of command or other teams.

  • New members: New members who have just graduated from the Academy are automatically welcomed on the news by the Academy Staff.
  • Crew promotions: Promotions are listed on the monthly ship reports, and members of Command generally post these on the news.
  • Monthly plot summary: Each ship submits a monthly plot summary, which should be posted on the news.
