Background
On stardate 237006.25 Miles Driscoll was born to John and Selana Driscoll on board his father's freighter. He would describe his early childhood days as a really happy time. Growing up on a freighter seemed the ultimate playground for a kid dreaming of space adventures.
He was taught by his mother and father on board the freighter as his family did not stay on one planet but was out in space transporting cargo most of the time. This is the reason why he had no real friends apart from some older crew members working for his father. Miles still is not too talkative around people he does not know very well.
His father always wanted him to take over the freighter one day, but that was not Miles' plan of his future. His interest in science grew and he finally wanted to see more of space than just space ports and cargo bays. So he decided to join the Academy which resulted in a big argument with his father.
Since he had left his family, his father and Miles haven't spoken a word. He only has occasional contact to his mother.
The row with his father encouraged him to give his very best at the Academy as he didn't want to fail which would ultimately mean going back – the worst thing he can think of right now.
