Message In A Bottle

((Captain's Office, The Hub, Starbase 118))

::Towards the end of their conversation about the rumour mill, the Captain seemed to cringe at the mention of troublesome delegates.::

Nicholotti: Did it have to be the Naussicaans?

Brek: ::Shrugging.:: I often think of them as the new Klingons, barging in everywhere and testing our patience. But I have an idea how I can change their behaviour.

::Her look faded into a smile.::

Nicholotti: Very well, keep me updated. I'm sure word of the Calgary will get out to the masses soon enough. I don't want a panic.

Brek: This is indeed a strange case, sure to attract people's curiosity. If we can contain the two survivors to sickbay, most civilians won't have the opportunity to focus too much on what happened to the Calgary. Out of sight, out of mind, as the saying goes...

Nicholotti: And thank you, Lieutenant. You make my job easier.

oO Compliment alert. Do not reciprocate. Should the word ever gets around that you speak nicely to females when no gratification is to be gained, your reputation will suffer! OO

Brek: ::After a slight hesitation he nonetheless mirrored her smile.:: I am only doing my duty, ma'am.

::After that, he was free to go and he made a mental list of what he needed to collect before he summed up the nerve to confront the troublesome Nausicaans.::

((SB 118 – Diplomatic Building))

::What he had in mind required precise preparations and Brek spent a fair long time rummaging through his possessions, stored either in his quarters or office. He owned about everything, the only difficulty was in locating what he wanted.::

::Once equipped with a kevlar vest, put under his uniform, and a specific bottle of firewine, he called his aide.::

Brek: =/\= Dakarai, I am going to have a word with our Nausicaan guests. If I am not back in exactly 30 minutes, you call the cavalry. =/\=

Dakarai: =/\= La cavalerie? … Oh right, sécurité. But that's insane, you can't go there alone! =/\=

Brek: =/\= Don't interfere, I'll be in touch. =/\=

::His aide continued to protest, but Brek cut the communication. He had to act now, before what little courage he had vanished like latinum after a raid by the FCA.::

((Time warp – Suite of the Nausicaan Delegation))

::The door was easy to locate, it bore several scratches and even indentations. Brek pressed the buzzer, his index finger not leaving the doorbell until he got a response.::

::When it happened, the door only opened fractionally. One of the occupants grabbed Brek by the collar and within seconds he stood amid a group of 5 Nausicaans, looking down at him like he was a meal on legs.::

Nausicaan 1: Are you... ::Searching for his words.:: Room Service?

Brek: ::Brushing his uniform.:: Sorry to disappoint, but no, I am not. I'm Lt Brek, CDO. I joined you to offer my services and help you turn up a profit in this sector.

Nausicaan 2: ::Snatching the wine bottle Brek had taken with him.:: You think you can come in here, tell us what to do, and survive, Ferenguy?

Brek: Your docking documents stip... ::Someone pushed him in the back.:: … ...ulate that you travelled to this Starbase to examine the possibility of doing business here. I know of a few Ferengi businesses who might appreciate having bodyguards like you.

::The wine bottle was now doing the round among the delegates. They spilled a lot of it on their garments and on the floor, but to Brek's relief one of the delegates still managed to consume a fair share of wine.::

Nausicaan 1: We will find them ourselves. It's not as if you Ferengi are difficult to track down!

Brek: Doing business with the Ferengi can be tricky. A letter of introduction from me would smooth the pro... ::The second Nausicaan dropped to the floor, unconscious, prompting Brek to change his tune, and to speak fast too.:: Ah, not a minute too soon. This gentlemen, is a messagein a bottle. A sign of things to come: If you continue to disrupt this Starbase, food and drinks will be increasingly difficult for you to trust. But don't worry, your friend will be on his feet within the hour.

::The four remaining Nausicaans were now exhibiting blades of various designs, but unanimously sharp.::

Nausicaan 1: I don't think that you, on your side, will be up on your feet in any number of hours, Ferenguy.

Brek: ::Eyeing the door with increasing concern. The vest he was wearing was making him feel too warm, and he was in grave danger of showing his fear through uncontrollable sweat.:: This will look great in the headlines: 4 Nausicaans butchered a harmless little Ferengi... A diplomat, on top of this. It's going to be your ticket out of this Starbase, which will make a lot of people happy.

Nausicaan 1: ::With a frustrated growl.:: I see... This is enough nonsense for a day then! Throw him out of here!

::The order was executed without ceremony and Brek landed on the wall facing the suite. He picked himself up and limped back to his office. All things considered, it had gone quite well. Now he would be able to focus on the current mission...::
