Real Life information

Hi, my name's Lizzie and I'm a Physics student at the moment, and as a result one of the younger members of the group. On the internet I'm known as Estantia most of the time and I write, draw, play games and many other things creative, so this is by no means the first time I've role-played!

As for who I am... well I don't look like much (No-One is allowed to edit that bit *glares at Jay*) but I'm fairly tall for a girl, 5' 8"ish. I met Jay (Salak) when he and my friend went to the same sixth form, though it feels like I've known him for far longer than that. I'm based in East Anglia, but have a tendency to forget the time when I'm talking to the people in America.

How you came to UFOP: SB118

Okay, confession time: I can't really count as a star trek fan. To this day I've not seen that many episodes and most of what I've learned about the world is from what has happened in sim and whatever Jay happens to throw at me. Speaking of which it is firmly his fault that I'm here at all.

As I said, I'd known Jay for ages and obviously discussed my love of writing. He then pointed me towards the group and... you know, I can't remember my initial reaction, though I think it was a glance, then joking about making a Vulcan to keep his company. However once an idea is planted it grows, and on Christmas day I got to get bored waiting for the festivities and submitted the application.

So here I am, though Cara got herself here really, how else would an idea for a Vulcan become a short Terran/Betazoid hybrid?

History

  • Where were you first placed? What was it like starting to sim on your vessel?

I was first assigned to the USS Wallace, though in actuality I never sent on the ship. I actually think of DS17 as Cara's first assignment and home, as she first spent months there and then returned during the Gorn War. It's hardly surprising seeing as all the ships in the Ithassa region centre around it, but I have a special attachment to it.

As for simming, well as I said before I'd been role-playing for years, so that was nothing new to me, the play by e-mail system however was, though a love-hate relationship with Yahoogroups and my e-mail account was not long in forming.

  • What have been your greatest challenges in this group?

My greatest challenges... I honestly don't know. For me, probably not so many, but for Cara, well she's had a lot of character development and it hasn't been easy for her by any means. Possibly the hardest thing for me as a writer was keeping up the pace and making myself get the sims out rather than trail off, though more recently it's been a question of whether I want/should rise higher in the command chain.

But the answer to that... well, we'll have to wait and see ;)

  • What have been your greatest achievements in this group?

As with the challenges I wouldn't say there were any particularly for me, but more for my character. Though if you think of it as an achievement, then the entire intricate webs of past and lives that I've managed to weave together into Cara's stories through the Writing challenges, sims, my OTHER stories and (very) long-term B-plots that I've woven together. Admittedly only i can see the glory of that tapestry, but I assure you it's something I can be proud of.

Future

  • What do you hope to ultimately accomplish?

What do I hope to accomplish? I hope to be able to tell Cara's story in its entirety, reaching into the nooks and bringing it all out to make her fully rounded. After that, then who knows? maybe I'll find another character to help flourish and spread their tale for everyone to see *smiles*.

  • Where do you see this group in five years?

Good grief I've NO idea. I'm not intending to be one of the people steering it at the moment, my plans are on a much lower level. I do think it would be awesome if they did a star trek series like how we see the place, promotions, missions, ship changes, just following one life and all the lives they touch.

  • How do you think this group has contributed to Star Trek's legacy? How has the group contributed to the internet community?

As I said before, I don't really know much about Star Trek, but as far as the group goes I think it's a great world and a great place to be. If I knew people who wanted a sci-fi sim then I would certainly send them here, it doesn't seem to be nearly as dry and boring as people outside the fanbase seem to think it is.

This is Cara Maria, signing off *winks*
