Born in the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland on Earth, Maverick was brought up in a pretty close knitted family. His father worked as a communications engineer while his mother ran a cafe. His younger sister Siobhan was an artist who would spend her time creating art pieces for travelling visitors to Earth and his sister Laura was studying to become a linguistic teacher, spending her time helping children learn the various languages from the Federation. He respected his parents for their humble upbringing, and how much they supported their kids in following their dreams.
Maverick's eye color and white haired streak was a genetic trait passed down from his father's side of the family. Originating from the genetic mutation of Waardenburg's Syndrome, however with the advancement of medicine, the hearing loss was able to be treated before birth, keeping the physical traits, without the sensory issues. He was a medium built, with a bit of muscle to his bones. Having a goatee, as his signature facial hair with medium lengthen hair. He spoke with a low toned voice, with a twinge of a Scottish accent.
When he was younger, he dreamed of being able to explore space. He was enamoured by the sky and dreamed of being able to see the wonders of space. Spending his spare time as a youth, playing in holodecks, playing out space adventures with his friends. By the time he graduated high school, he knew exactly where he wanted to go. He handed in an application to Starfleet and found himself being accepted to the academy.
When he attended the Academy, he enrolled to major in Tactical with a minor in Coms/Ops. He found that he was quite proficient when it came to tactics, diplomacy and piloting, scoring quite well in those classes, however his weakness showed in Engineering. He found that he couldn't get it as well as other people, and found himself intimidated by their proficiency and intelligence in the subject matter. He struggled to achieve anything higher than a C when it came to those classes. He was passing the classes, but it wasn't as good as the grades he was getting in the other subjects.
