PERSONAL HISTORY

Linaen Valeris was born on stardate 237203.15 to parents Roran and Lira Valeris. She grew up in a multicultural household that emphasized both curiosity and compassion. Her mother, a historian and professor, often encouraged resilience and perseverance, while her father Roran, a diplomat, often instilled in her the value of listening, understanding, and finding meaning in stories.

Growing up, Linen faced the challenges that came with her Elaysian heritage. Though not as physically limited as Elaysians due to her El Aurian physiology, she still moved with more caution and slowness than most of her peers. Some children mocked her for her slower movements or choosing mental pursuits over more active sports. However, she was also blessed with a magnetic warmth and empathy that drew others to her. This helped her form close bonds, and over time, she learned how to turn vulnerability into strength.

Linen’s interest in engineering began early. Her fascination with complex systems, starship schematics, and how things worked was sparked by hours spent pouring over Starfleet Corps of Engineers journal articles. A childhood friend, Javon–now a warp theorist with the Daystrom Institute–first introduced her to plasma manifold diagrams when they were ten. From then on, she was hooked. At the same time, her father’s love for diplomacy and storytelling left a lasting impression, and her innate ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics would later lead her to temporary diplomatic assignments within Starfleet.

Linaen entered Starfleet Academy in 2390, majoring in Engineering and minoring in Cultural Studies. She graduated in 2394 with honors, noted for her unique blend of technical excellence and interpersonal insight. Her ability to stay calm under pressure and read between the lines earned her respect not just in engineering labs, but in cadet leadership and conflict resolution programs.

PERSONALITY

Personality Overview She is a thoughtful and emotionally intelligent individual, defined by a quiet strength and a deep sense of empathy. She’s someone who feels deeply, thinks carefully, and moves through the world with both purpose and kindness. People are naturally drawn to her steady presence, sensing that she’s someone who truly listens, who truly cares. While she tends to operate behind the scenes rather than seeking the spotlight, her impact is felt in the way she supports others and holds things together when tensions run high. Driven yet humble, reserved yet warm, she walks a delicate balance between professionalism and heart.

Strengths Her compassion and empathy are the cornerstones of her personality. She understands others on an intuitive level, offering support that is both genuine and thoughtful. People often find themselves opening up to her without meaning to, drawn in by her approachable demeanor and the sense that she truly sees them.

In professional settings, she stands out for her focused, calm demeanor. She remains composed even when things get hectic, and has a remarkable ability to keep others grounded during high-stakes situations. Her warmth doesn’t undercut her effectiveness—instead, it enhances it, allowing her to lead or collaborate with quiet authority and unwavering reliability.

Weaknesses Her deep sense of responsibility can become a double-edged sword. She often gives too much of herself, pouring energy into her work and the people around her to the point of exhaustion. With a strong drive to be dependable, she sometimes forgets to set boundaries, becoming a workaholic who only stops when she’s completely depleted.

She can also be guarded when it comes to trust, keeping people at arm’s length until she feels truly secure. This makes forming deeper personal connections a slower process. Conflict is something she tends to avoid—not out of fear, but because she values peace and dislikes unnecessary tension. However, this avoidance can lead to unresolved issues and internalized stress. Her selflessness, while admirable, can occasionally lead her to neglect her own needs in favor of others’.

Quirks Her quirks offer a glimpse into the unique blend of practicality and whimsy that defines her. She’s rarely without her miniature tool kit—an ever-ready companion for on-the-spot fixes, no matter how trivial. Her beloved “Warp Happens” mug is almost a signature item, seen perched on her workstation or cradled in her hands during long shifts.

One of her most endearing habits is talking to the Warp Core as if it were a trusted friend. Whether offering reassurances or quietly muttering diagnostics, it’s a ritual that others find amusing but oddly comforting. And when she’s thinking, really thinking, she tends to braid or play with her hair—a small, absent gesture that hints at the layers of thought and emotion always moving beneath her calm exterior.

Likes She finds deep comfort and inspiration in vintage engineering manuals and journals, often losing herself in their aged pages and timeless designs. Warm beverages—particularly Elaysian spiced tea—are a steady companion, offering a small ritual of calm throughout her day. One of her most cherished habits is walking the ship’s corridors late at night, especially during times of stress or emotional unrest. In the quiet hum of the ship, she finds peace and perspective.

Her love of engineering goes beyond function—starship schematics and system modifications fascinate her as puzzles with endless possibilities. Just as meaningful to her are the cultural expressions of her heritage: storytelling, traditional music, and shared histories. These narratives fuel her sense of identity and empathy. She also enjoys thoughtful, friendly debates on topics like technical ethics—particularly when they challenge her to see beyond the purely logical.

Dislikes She has little patience for inefficiency, especially when it stems from quick fixes that bypass proper testing or compromise safety. Every system has a reason for its design, and she believes deeply in honoring that process. She is also deeply affected when people underestimate or patronize her because of her physical limitations. While she handles such situations with poise, they leave a lasting impression.

Though she can navigate political maneuvering when necessary, she finds it disheartening and prefers transparent, honest dialogue. Her ideal working environment is built on mutual respect and cooperation, not gamesmanship or posturing. Within teams, she dislikes overly competitive behavior—she believes everyone performs better when working together, not against one another.

Hobbies Her hobbies reflect her balance of intellect, creativity, and introspection. She enjoys micro-engineering projects, often crafting or refining intricate mechanisms during her free time. Holodeck recreations serve both as a form of relaxation and as an experimental playground for new ideas or simulations. Journaling is a daily ritual—private and meditative, it helps her sort through thoughts and emotions.

She also has a passion for cultural music exploration, collecting sounds, instruments, and stories from across the galaxy. It’s a way of connecting not only to her own heritage but to others as well. Games like chess and other strategic exercises appeal to her methodical mind and offer a quiet, structured form of entertainment and reflection.

Goals She is quietly ambitious, driven by a desire to leave systems better than she found them. One of her long-term goals is to design a warp core configuration optimized for long-duration missions—more efficient, more sustainable, and safer for everyone aboard. Just as important to her is the desire to mentor junior officers, especially those who may feel underestimated due to disability, background, or a more reserved personality. She wants to be the person she once needed.

Eventually, she hopes to teach at Starfleet Academy, combining engineering education with interspecies collaboration training. She believes that innovation comes not just from brilliance, but from diverse perspectives working together. One day, she dreams of returning to her homeworlds to lead a cross-cultural engineering seminar—a personal and professional homecoming that would bring her journey full circle.

Greatest Fear At her core, her greatest fear is failing her crew in a moment of crisis. It's not rooted in insecurity, but in the depth of care she holds for those she serves with. She doesn’t seek praise or recognition—only the quiet knowledge that she did everything she could to protect and support the people who rely on her. That silent promise to herself is what drives her to keep growing, keep preparing, and keep showing up, no matter the cost.
