Lichen

Lichens were small, adaptable symbionts that could grow in almost any climate, from the freezing tundra of Norala IV to the deserts of Faendra. They were usually composed of a fungus and a plant or bacterium, which depended on each other to survive.

Fields of lichens grew in Norala IV's vast cave grottoes, providing an important source of food for wild herbivores. They also sometimes found lichens on exposed outcroppings on the surface.

Some cultures discovered ways to use the luminescent varieties to provide light.
