| Kiden Lahr | A Xenobiologist, Kiden Lahr was always fascinated in the dual nature of his people, helping the Trill Science Academy to study the joining his entire life. Despite his interest in biology, specifically the symbiosis, Kiden was very much like his daughter in that he never actually had any interest in being a host. Understanding this, he was never disappointed in her for not attempting an application. His only wish for his often wayward daughter was that she finally did find a passion in life - a thing that she felt was worth her pursuit. The two are extremely close, and keep in regular contact, with Kiden constantly peppering his daughter with questions about the new lifeforms she encounters in Starfleet |

Personal History
Since the dual nature of certain Trill first became commonly known, most other species have only associated them with their symbiosis. However, at most a few hundred Trill are joined each year. While the application process for the joining is competitive, and does draw a great deal of interest, there are hundreds of thousands of Trill who have no interest in hosting a symbiote. Chana Lahr has always been one of those - mainly because the shy young Trill woman could barely handle sharing even some of her thoughts and feelings with those around her. The idea of having to share every part of herself, so completely, with any other being was simply unimaginable. So while some of her friends studied science and culture from grade school, preparing for the selection process as best they could, Lahr simply drifted through her younger years without much focus. At the age of fifteen, on a class trip to the Trill Science Academy, most of Lahr's class was busy engrossing themselves in various aspects of symbiote history, even if they weren't interested in the joining themselves. Lahr, however, found an early draft of the schematics for the first Trill warp drive and immediately found her first true obsession. Unfortunately for Lahr, she discovered her life's passion a little too late, and didn't have an overly impressive resume. As such, her first application to Starfleet Academy was rejected. A year later, at the age of nineteen, Lahr transmitted an application to enter Starfleet as enlisted personnel ... she left home for training within the month. After a relatively successful training cycle, where she managed to focus most of her efforts in applied engineering, Lahr graduated and received her first posting: Engineering Specialist, USS Victory.
Ambitions and Goals
Lahr has long hoped to to re-transmit her application to Starfleet Academy and earn a commission as a Starfleet Officer. In the short-term, however, she is hoping to gain actual hands-on experience with applied engineering - both to bolster her application and because she enjoys it.
A more abstract goal of Lahr's, which she doesn't particularly know how to measure, is to grow more confident and learn to assert herself.
Other Notes
- Personality
Lahr is extremely shy, and very uncomfortable in new situations. Although she is friendly once you get to know her, few have actually managed the feat. She is a capable enough engineer, though not brilliant, but her biggest flaw is a lack of belief in herself.
- Mannerisms
Whenever she feels unsure of herself, she casts her gaze downward at the floor. She has a bad habit of stuttering and choking on her words when she knows an answer or has an opinion - but she just doesn't have the confidence to voice it.
- Hobbies
Lahr grew up playing Trill piano, but was never very talented at it and hasn't played in several years. She loves to just be alone with her thoughts and read a good book, especially Bajoran histories and ancient Klingon songs, so that she can lose herself in another place and time.
