Can Go Home Again
Lael enjoyed a rare day in her hometown of Cedar Springs walking the beach with her daughter and mother to a favorite childhood hangout of Lael's called the Fort Mackinac Tea Room. Lael, her mother, and twin brother would indulge in hot chocolate there when her mother was on Earth. During the walk, Lael reflected on the changes her recent assignment to the Atlantis and transfer to the Chin'toka would bring to her family life. [1]
Party Time
Maddy stayed overnight with Lael's mother while Lael attended the party which was intended to celebrate the official commissioning of the Chin'toka. As she entered the Officer's Mess, she was met by Lephi, her fellow engineer. After a brief discussion, Elizabeth Snow joined them. It wasn't long before Lael spotted a familiar face in the crowd: Jo Marshall. She encouraged Lephi to come with her so that she could introduce the young Ferengi woman. She approached Jo and two other officers she didn't know to find Toryn and Journs had also joined the conversation. A brief exchange of pleasantries later, she introduced herself to the two officers she didn't recognize.[2]
Their conversation, however, was interrupted by Admiral Kove attempting to gain their attention. The Admiral gave a brief speech and introduced the Chin'toka's new commanding officer. She stood listening respectfully as the Chin'toka crew welcomed three new officers, Lieutenant Noa T'Nessa Levinson, Ensign Varik Tal’Aura and Ensign Paros as well as changes in duty posts for Toryn, Logan, and McKnight, all of whom were named as members of the new Strategic Operations Response Team with Toryn to lead it. Also, promotions were announced, such as Kurt Logan to Lieutenant Commander and Ensigns Lephi, Snow and th'Koro to Lieutenant Junior Grade. [3] Additionally, Lephi and Snow were promoted to Assistant Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Medical Officer respectively.
After the last of the promotion announcements, Lael pulled Lephi aside to talk to the Ferengi woman about her first official project as Assistant Chief: the second christening that the Captain had approved to take place in Engineering before the official launch. They agree to wait until the morning to discuss the details and Lael seeks out Lieutenant Levinson to get to know her better.[4]
