"Our Queen is our mother, to her we are but children."
a Koropian proverb.
The Koropian are a species of intelligent humanoids with a matriarchal society governed by a Queen. While slightly xenophobic they are also divided up into two different distinct classes. Women who hold all the positions of power and authority and the men who do all of the physical, hard labor.

History

Over a thousand years before the Koropians were almost destroyed by war. A series of smaller disputes grew into a global conflict. One where whole regions were depopulated by roving bands of warriors who slaughtered everyone, men, women and children.

As a result those not involved in the fighting fled, pushing deep into previously uncharted and forbidding regions in order to escape the conflicts. With no one left to work the land, no one to grow crops many soldiers starved. Plagues and other diseases ran rampant as the few healers still living had also fled.

The end result was a final end to the war, not as a result of one side finally winning but as a result of the fact that there were literally no healthy soldiers left to fight. Many of these died with no treatment and the few that did survive were weakened by their ordeal and incapable of defending themselves when the civilian population sent out scouts to see what was going on.

The survivors slowly returned to the land, rebuilt their homes and developed the current social and political system as a way to ensure that such insanity as that which they had just survived never happens again.

Government

They are ruled by a hereditary matriarchal monarchy. This Queen has the legal power of life and death over every single member of their species, including their own daughters. These daughters serve as advisors and ministers of major departments with their own advisors, staff and specialists. The Queen selects the one who she believes will be the best candidate to replace her. This individual can be replaced but serves as her chief advisor and is considered to be superior to her sisters.

Description

While they appear to be much like most other Caucasian humanoid species they

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

They are slightly xenophobic, avoiding most other species and limiting their contact as much as they can. Other than this they seem to have the same kinds of mental health issues as most other intelligent humanoids.

Religion

They have no organized religion and based on the surviving historical data this aspect of their society was abandoned as it was one of the major causes of the last war.

Mythology

For some reason no access is available to any of this data by anyone who is not a female Koropian. Even then it seems there are restrictions and controls to monitor who does access it and what it is they look at.

Society

The majority of physical, menial or hard labor is done by men while women train to be doctors, educators and specialists. All women are considered to be superior to men, both intellectually and creatively while men are believed to be less intelligent and incapable of creative thought.

Their communities are for the most part very clean, laid out in a logical style with access to all from the infrastructure, medical, educational and recreational facilities. However most of these facilities have separate sections for men and women with the women receiving preferential treatment in cleaner, more sophisticated surroundings.

For example public transportation has climate controlled, spacious, clean, floral scented seating areas with plush, contoured seating for the women, while the men stand, packed in like sardines with no climate control in a separate section.

Culture

There are many fine artists, all female who create many different types of artistic expression. Some of this work has been acquired for galleries, displays and other shows on other worlds. They also import various different types of art for display in their museums. All of these facilities are for women only.

Men are not considered to be advanced enough intellectually to appreciate such elusive and often thought provoking means of expression.

Customs

Rich and important women normally travel around in a sedan chair. That is a plush, contoured chair suspended by two long poles in front and two behind that are held by men as they carry the chair around.

The more important the woman the more elaborate, expensive the chair as well as the number of men needed to carry the chair. These range from two men to 8 who are needed to carry the Queens chair.

Technology

While they easily match most Federation worlds when it comes to most forms of technology they have almost no offensive or defensive military technology of any kind. They are also not interested in this kind of technology.

Economy

While they are mostly self-sufficient they have constructed a massive commercial space station that sits stationary between the 9th and 10th planet of their system. Any and all species are welcome here and much trade is conducted here. Numerous shuttles and freighters are constantly moving back and forth between this station and their homeworld but they seldom transport any aliens.

This station allows them to participate in the vast economic community that connects so many different species within the Federation. At the same time it allows them to remain relatively save from outside influences and social contamination.

Military

They do not have any military and have not needed one of any kind for more than a thousand years.

Federation Intelligence Files

Lwaxana Troi left her daughter's sixth birthday party to return dressed as a Koropian princess atop a sedan chair carried by four young men - a mortifying experience for the girl.
