Captain Rendary - Kodiak (Galaxy Class)

Kodiak Galaxy Class Shakedown Cruise

Captain Rendary and Commander Vedoc take command of the USS Kodiak. While Captain Rendary remains on the bridge, Commander Vedoc runs the crew through a variety of simulations including a Holo Deck malfunction, and a faked Romulan attempt to steal the ship.

Mission: Classified

There are consistent rumors that the Kodiak discovered an inter-dimensional rift. Starfleet refuses to confirm or deny the rumors. All logs are sealed.

The Daris Distress Call (237603.30 – 237604.03)

Just fresh in receiving crew, the USS Kodiak is assigned by Starbase 118 operations to proceed directly to the Daris Colony and assist in the evacuation of the colonists. They proceed at full speed for fear of a dominion attack. Proceeding at full speed for a few days, the tactical officer, Ensign Gildor Alexander reported that they had begun picking up life pods massing around the second moon of Daris II. The Captain orders the cargo bays aboard the USS Kodiak converted to allow civilians to stay.

Upon arriving in orbit, Commander Vedoc ordered Ensign Ngyun to begin scanning the colony to find out why the tectonic plates had become unstable as they were causing massive earthquakes across the planet’s surface. While Ensign Nguyen is attempting to find the cause of the disturbance, Captain Rendary receives a call from one of the escape pods and he is told that Captain Paine is safe and that there are no causalities so far among the escaped civilians.

Most of the injured were simple bumps and bruises with a few with de-compression sickness. It is report that Captain Paine, Lt Cmdr Valeris and Lily (civ) were unable to be found. Ensign Felix was able to confirm that the colony’s captain’s yacht had launched, but they were unable to find it in the debris field in orbit. The three were listed as Missing in Action.

CLASSIFIED: Captain Paine was found to have deserted with Lt Cmdr Valeris when sensor readings were discovered in 2381 by the USS Oscar from sensor bouy wreckage near the inner orbit Daris’ sun. No efforts by Starfleet command have been made to apprehend and their case is considered closed.

“Captain's Log, Stardate 9904.03. Kodiak's first mission has been bitter sweet. We were sent to the Daris 2 Colony to provide assistance with the evacuation. Captain Paine ordered the planet evacuated due to huge seismic activity and the growing possibility of a crack in the environmental dome forming. When we arrived all of the colonies inhabitants were grouped together in the shadow of the small moon that orbited the planet. It wasn't until all the lifeboats and escape pods were on board that we found out that Captain Paine, Lieutenant Command Valeris and a civilian by the name of Lily were not present. We initiated a search to locate the missing personnel after 5 hours tactical sensors picked up the wreckage of a Federation Shuttlecraft. Scans indicated that the Shuttle was Captain Paine's personal Command shuttle. It appears that his shuttlecraft might have come in contact with another escape pod and thus account for the missing personnel. Dangerous tremors and volcanic activity near the crash site made impossible to launch a search party. I have contacted Starfleet Command to dispatch a Search and Rescue Team to the area as soon as possible. We are currently 10 hours away from Star Base 118. The officers from the colony have been assigned jobs and sections while they are aboard, but I am concerned about their welfare. They have been going about their duties with little or no interaction with the my crew. I fear that they are not adjusting to what has happened on the colony. I am going to call Lieutenant Commander Y'Shirad in to talk about how her crew is adjusting.”

-    SFI sends the Kodiak to investigate possible Dominion presence in the Web Nebula. Investigations of the three planets in the Lithron system discover no sign of the Dominion. The crashed remains of the USS Glory are discovered and the logs downloaded.

The two ship defeat the Tholian vessels, but during the battle a Tholian assassin mortally wounds Cpt. Rendary, and the Kodiak is damaged beyond repair.

-    Aboard the USS Regent the Kodiak crew undertakes a cultural observation mission. The Enli are an early industrial revolution society not dissimilar from the Victorian period on earth. On the surface all proceeds as normal till a gang of thugs kidnap Commander Vedoc. During his rescue, the crew discovers the existence of an evil energy being that is responsible for a host of grizzly serial murders. The being possesses members of the crew in turn, till at last it tries to posses the ships computer where it is trapped.

-    Back at SB118, the crew is transferred to the USS Kodiak-a. Joined on its maiden voyage by Commodore Brian Kelly, the crew is tasked to recapture the escaped convict Doctor Solitaire. Evil and insane the doctor had previously nearly destroyed the USS Ranger, and Commander Vedoc. In the end Commander Vedoc leaves the damaged Kodiak to confront Dr. Solitarie, and LCMD Y'shirad is forced to order self-destruct. Admiral Kelly then reveals the mission was a Holo Deck command test for LCMD Y'shirad and Commander Vedoc. Both will be promoted.

Two lost Terran colonies are attempting to form a permanent peace, through the marriage of their leaders. The Voraah are the former slaves of a squid like people now thought destroyed. Chaotic, and violent they are a anathema to the philosophical orderly principals of their lost sister colony. In the middle of the wedding ceremony one of the Vora Tech Lords appear. Moving deck to deck, the Vora gift the couple with a telepathic link, before being captured.

-    Acting on Intelligence from a long range recon ship, the Kodiak leaves for the edge of the Beta Quadrant. In route it is revealed that a Borg transwarp tunnel has been discovered in addition to a race of space going arachnids capable of destroy Borg cubes. While the Kodiak star drive destroys the transwarp tunnel, the Kodiak saucer section recovers the survivors of the first ship from the planet Seth. During this mission it is revealed that the Orion syndicate had played a role in the construction of the Dauntless class, skimming funds from the constructions cost, and infiltrating the crew.

Through the efforts of the crew, they discovered that a Callimarri, a plasma being, was using the ship to get back to it's own world.

-    The crew quickly discerned what they needed to do to get back to regular space. They used advice they received from the different telepaths on board via the aliens, and eventually came face to face with a dark entity. After defeating the dark entity, the ship then made its trip into Federation space where the crew discovered a plot by high ranking officials in the Federation.

-    The Kodiak joined with other ships to help arrest a captain that had gone against his orders. But on the way there, the first officer, Lt. Commander Mattew Lee, betrayed the ship for his own interests. Now the crew of the Kodiak is trying to debug the ship from any attempts on Lt.Cmd. Lee's part to sabotage it further, and help arrest a captain gone bad.

-    USS KODIAK has been tasked with a classified operation concerning SB45.
-    KODIAK was to retrieve operational computer memory for all research data stored at AB45 and render the systems non-operational.
-    Upon arrival, it was determined that there existed a level 7 biohazard and a level 9 HAZMAT contamination. An away team entered the subterranean base in type II environmental suits and after encountering corpses of base personnel animated by unknown biological agents the team was able to secure the data.
-    The team also met with a Romulan team, purpose unknown, which was disabled after a fire fight.
-    The team is now attempting to leave the surface amidst significant storm activity; there are also Orion agents present, as well as a Klingon team. Locally deployed spacecraft coincident with KODIAK's position supported these other pretences.
-    Having successfully retrieved the data, the Kodiak is presently in route to Vulcan in the hopes of curing a crewman exposed to one of the viruses on the surface.

-    Shortly after discovering the betrayal of Ambassador Sheridan to the Sons of Khaless, Kodiak

-    Repairs complete, the Kodiak prepares to accompany a large group of settlers to the planet of Kismet on the Breen Boarder. As they prepare to leave, the Orion Syndicate attempts to assassinate Captain Hollis. Allowing the Syndicate to believe they succeeded, Hollis impersonates retired Captain Vedoc while dispatching a team to eliminate the Bellani wing of the Orion Syndicate. Meanwhile, the crew is interrogated by two Metapad Telepaths to assure loyalty to the Federation.

-    Free of the Syndicate taint, Kodiak arrives at Kismet, and begins to prepare the settlement for the colonists. The away team is attacked the local predator, the tiger like Indrum. Several team members bit by the Indrum morph into the great cats. It seems the Breen had created at least some of the beasts from residence of the original colony. The process remains infectious in those created beasts. The affects are reversed with mixed results in the infected Kodiak crew.

-    While Kodiak is at Kismet, the USS Tiger under the command of Cmd. Hebron, patrols the Breen Boarder. Discovering a cloaked Breen station on the Federation side, the Tiger investigates and rescues several Prisoners of War. In the process the Tiger is severally damaged, and Kodiak leaves Kismet to assist. Once both ships are at Kismet, Cmd. Hebron is promoted to Captain.

-    With Federation/Breen relations deteriorating, the Nomadic Bandi offer to broker a peace meeting. The parties meet above Kismet, while forces on all sides conspire to start a war. Section 31 inspires a group of Star Fleet Captains to attack the Breen home world. The Breen attempt to assassinate their own representative, General Gidax. The Bandi assist the Breen in their attempt to kill the General. After saving General Gidax, the Kodiak is able to broker a continued truce with the Breen

-Mission: Web Nebula/Dyson Sphere - 2379.02.01
-    Kodiak leaves Kismet for the near by Web Nebula. Twelve years ago the original Galaxy Class Kodiak had visited the Web Nebula, and Lithron VII system. During that initial mission, a moon sized Dyson Sphere had been detected. With the return of peace to the Quadrant, Star Fleet decides the time has come to follow up.
-    On entering the Web Nebula, the Kodiak encounters a Whale probe, similar to the one that had visited Earth. There is brief contact with the creatures that pilot the probe, and then it leaves the Nebula. Kodiak continues on sending the saucer section to the Star Drive section to the Web Nebula, while taking the saucer in search of the Sphere. Both teams encounter hostile telepathic entities. Whether the beings are fighting a civil war or different species is unclear. It is clear though that the Kodiak has to withdraw from the Nebula.
-    Returning to SB118 from what is seen as a successful tour of the Breen boarder, the Kodiak enjoys a warm welcome. However the Dauntless class hull type has been rejected from full production in favor of the Sovereign class. Barely avoiding de commissioning, the vessel is assigned to provide neutral security at the Klingon martial arts competition called the Triumph on the planet Hells Gate. The games are interrupted by a coup against the local government, and the formation of a new house. Kodiak successfully evacuates the contestants.

-Mission: Treasure Hunt - Joint Mission with USS Independence - 80.02.01
-    Assigned to the sectors around Bajor, the newly commissioned Kodiak is requested to search for 3 Cardasian Cargo vessels, lost 50 years ago in the Bad Lands. The haulers were loaded with treasures from Bajor, which that government would like, returned. Joined by the USS Independence, the two ships conduct a systematic search, till a plasma storm sweeps them into a planetary system. There they discover the ship, and the descendants of the crew and Bajoran Slaves. Ironically the Bajorans rule the Cardasians with a ruthless abandon. After making contact with the survivors they are all transported to Kodiak, and returned to Bajor

-    While at Bajor, a report of a derlict ship on a deserted icy planetoid is received. Kodiak, ending leave, proceeds to investigate. Scans of the ship reveal a lifeless Specter Classes vessel, the USS Umbra. A large away team, beams down only to discover a ship full of corpses covered with a fine dust. Soon the dust is found to be mold spores, and two crew members are infected. The away team returns to the Kodiak which races back to DS9. The spores are telepathic and voracious. It is only when their telepathic connection to their host is interrupted that they die, freeing the affected crewmembers.
