Background
Early life
Kaz was born on USS Brunel and she lived there with her mother until at the age of 3 when her mother was killed. Her father did visit regularly in those years but his name was never recorded on the birth record. At that point she moved to a Federation colony to live with her uncle and his wife. Her uncle had never planned to have children but felt a commitment to look after his little sister’s child.
Kaz grew up in a small settlement outside one of the main cities of a large colony. Their family ran a retreat there. Although she was an only child she spent a lot of time with her cousins and would go on hikes, camping and on other adventures with them. She loved the outdoors also enjoying horse riding and wild swimming. When she wasn’t with her cousins she loved to read adventure novels.
When Kaz was a teenager her Betaziod abilities first appeared and she was sent to see a Betaziod in the city to help her control them. She tried to reject her abilities and refused to explore them further only learning the minimum required to control them. Those years were difficult and she used to hide away from people taking long rides in the countryside.
Kaz decided to join Starfleet at 18 following in the family tradition. Her uncle had also served as an enlisted engineer in his early adulthood and she had loved listening to him recount his stories of those days. Kaz was drawn to the idea of adventure and seeing more of what was out there.
Kaz had always loved learning about nature and animals from a join again, so science seemed like the most suitable track.
Starfleet career
At the academy she specialized in Zoology and Biochemistry.
After graduating from Starfleet academy she spent 2 years serving on a starship as a science officer. She loved the adventure and seeing new places.
Kaz was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade and re-assigned to a research outpost on a dying planet. The outpost was a mix of Starfleet and civilian personal. They lived in bio-domes as the temperature on the planet was too high during the day. At first she missed starship live but soon settled. She enjoyed studying the planets past both biological and civilization. But the research outpost grew to including mining operations and more civilian personal and soon Starfleet started to remove personal and after nearly 5 years there she found her self re-assigned to USS Thor.
